My surgeon has put me on his waiting list for the above. I'm a bit puzzled as it's my RIGHT HIP that's the problem not the left but his letter to me & my GP said the above. If correct what is the left hybrid please? tHANK YOU.

I had a similar surprise when I saw my consultant following referral by the GP. I had constant pain and locking in y right hip but I was told I needed both doing and he asked me which one I wanted doing first. I opted for the one which was causing the pain.

It may be that you need both doing and he thinks you'll benefit most from the "wrong" one done first. Ask for an explanation -after all they're the ones paid to know.

    What ever happens, good luck!

No way. My left hip is perfectly fine. It has never been evaluated for deterioration.

I would call his secretary. Need to make sure he does the correct one.

Make sure they are doing the right one.  In my pre-op, the surgeon made me tell him which ine to confirm he was doing theright one, then proceeded to use a marker pen to indicate the correct leg with a large arrow.

I went for an MRI on left hip and she was going to do right, contact them and point out that they have the wrong side and see what reasons they give if any for a change in hip replacement in other hip.

Better to query it now than on the day when there doing pre op checks, not sure what difference it would make, would they need to cancel to order a new prosthetic hip, no idea but wouldn't be great on the day to have it cancelled.

Gosh make sure you check.  If your question is what is a hybrid hip I'm sure it's where one of the components is cemented in (the socket bit usually I thing) and the other non cemented.

Sorry I don't understand. I will look it up later. Thanks though

Sarah, it sounds a mistake by your surgeon's office, and I think you had better contact him right away to get this straightened out.

I googled "hybrid THR" and it said "The hybrid total hip replacement combines a cemented femoral component with a cementless acetabular component." So that has nothing to do with which side, just his method of placing the implants.

OMG. And I'm supposed to trust him with amputation................

Wow that's drastic surgery, I thought you were having hip replacement, I'm so sorry its not just a straightforward hip job

Alexandria, a hip replacement IS an amputation - an amputation of the hip joint.

Hi Annie I'm presuming your not in UK because if you check NHS direct you will see that amputation is actually the removal of a limb, arm or leg, if someone told me they were carrying out an amputation I would be off like the wind, well I would if I could walk LOL

I am in the U.S. I guess we need to be more specific! I would also be doing serious checking if the wrong hip were listed in the letter. That is not just an incorrect detail, but a major error!

It has been known in the 60s in the UK to amputate wrong leg, but it would be horrendous to find they had done wrong hip.

      Law suit springs to mind

OMG, don't even go there. I'm worried enough seeing he's written down the wrong hip. Tomorrow his secretary will get a very early phone call!

I'm sure that was a one off and 50 years ago when there was no check and check again, the chances they would do the wrong one are zilch as they will mark your leg before to make it impossible to do wrong one, so don't worry.

Yes definitely get that checked out. Maybe just a typo, sounds a bit careless...... Good luck.
