LEFT SHOULDER ISSUE , DO I NEED SURGERY?

Hi there ,

I am a 25 year old male and am Seeking some advice on a left shoulder injury I have.  I recently got a MRI on it and it states the following:

Findings :

The rotator cuff is intact: there is no tendonosis or tear.  There is a mild subacromial bursitis.  There is a small butska effusion.

The biceps Anchor and LHB are intact.  LHB lies in the bicipital grove.

There is an old depressed fracture of the greater turberosity, consistent with a Hill Sachs deformity.  This is consistent with the history of prior anterior dislocation.  There is mild scaring of the anterior labrum without evidence of a tear.  The rest of the labrum is intact.  No slap lesion is detected. There is no capsulitis. There is no osteochondral injury.

The AC joint is intact.  There is a type 1 acromion.  There is a patchy marrow oedema in the Glenoid and neck of the scapula extending into the base of the coracoid process.  This is suggestive of a stress reaction.  No stress fracture or Bony lession detected.

COMMENT:

The rotator cuff and biceps are intact.  There is a mild subacromial bursitis.  There is a hill Sachs deformity in keeping with prior anterior shoulder dislocation.  There is mild scarring of the anterior labrum without evidence of a re tear.  There is a patchy marrow oedema in the glenoid and distal scapula suggestive of a stress reaction.

To get into a bit about my life I am a carpenter builder so I work physically all day.  I lift weights and never seem to have any issues.

HOWEVER, we do get into hitting the punching bag or boxing , I seem to through my arm out , extending it and creating a sort of discomfort pop/crunch noise leaving me with some pain for around an hour then goes away but left with some discomfort more than anything.

Would love to hear some feed back as it has been on my mind for some time

Thank you

Does the Dr have a plan of action for your condition?  IMHO It is good if you can avoid surgery. Have you had some PT to strengthen muscles to prevent future dislocations? Have you tried kinesiotaping your shoulder when you workout to minimize risk of dislocation? Sometimes a cortisone injection, heat treatments and rest are enough to treat bursitis. I believe type I acromion is a good situation as there is less likelihood of impingement. You are young so not too early to learn prevention and treatment methods. You can't take back surgery.

      Thanks for your response,

I am seeing a specialist in 2 weeks time and am fairly certain after reading some forums and that that I may have bursitis issues.

I will keep you posted in what the outcome is !!
