Left shoulder Supraspinatus tendinitis

Posted , 7 users are following.

I have been diagnosed with left shoulder tendinitus, and have had 2 steroid injections and a few physio sessions - Nothing seems to be working, and I am now starting to feel pain in my right shoulder

My problem is, my work place are very reluctant to accept any blame in my injury. I work for a large shop, and have been lifting, pulling, pushing and lifting above head height very heavy boxes for 9yrs + some have been in excess of 30kg

What can I do / see to write a report about the causes of this type of injury, and how the heavy manual handling is directly related to it?

I had 3 weeks off work, and they stopped my pay half way through.

Thanks for any help

Well about 10 years ago a very good local shoulder surgeon told my wife that too, after 6 months of shots and crap I grabbed the bull by the horns and said doctor please do a MRI of her shoulder, he called back and said we are doing surgery, she has a snapped tendon

I just received my second injection as well. I have been a cashier for 30 years and have also been diagnosed with calcific supraspinatus tendonitis, bone spurs, and osteoarthritis of my right shoulder . I first reported my injury as a strain and then found out through an xray and ultrasound what I had. I reported my injury to WCB and am presently on my last appeal. They also cut me off and said that it is not from my work I was told I need possible shoulder replacement surgery. I am 52 never had a time loss  accident. I have been told by two orthopedic surgeons I am too young to have surgery. Because of the OA I am told that it will be difficult for me to win my case. I had everything documented in our first aid binder at work and have been sending in all my dr's notes. I find it very hard to sleep and I am like you very frustrated. I have been working all along and am on modified duties. When I received my second injection it helped for a couple weeks and now the pain is returning. Make sure you document absolutely everything. I am going back to see my doctor and am going to try to get another referral.

      Hi Kellieu.

My situation sounds very much like the one you are in. It was very late last night when I posted, so might not have got some points down.

I am 31yrs old and have worked picking heavy furniture for the last 9years - Mine started as a strain around 18-24 months ago I only told my supervisor at the time - I was given a steroid injection by the doctor. This help for a few weeks - Then came back so much worse, this is when I had the 3weeks off.

I have basically been told I need to prove it is work related from a external report, they don't agree with me as I have not had any previous time off with shoulder problems.

Meanwhile, I am still working the same job with "Lighter" duties which I have been on for the past 3months - I don't see it getting better any time soon, and I have been told it will be more then likly surgery due to my age

    UPDATE:

Thursday 09/06/16 I had my surgery to help my shoulder problems - I had Shouder Decompression and needling of the rotator cuff.

Long road ahead, but determined to get back to the strength I had before all the problems

    Hello Gazp,

Here's the problem. You have an injury that can only get better with rest and the proper therapy. Doing overhead activities will consistently aggravate your condition and it could get worse. Rotator cuff tendonitis is serious because it can turn into a tear if not treated properly.

You should get a medical opinion from your doctor or someone on your plan. This shouldn't cost more than $150. If you need an MRI then there is more cost involved if you are not covered but you could also do an M/S ultrasound for a couple hundred dollars. An ultrasound should show a full thickness tear but may or may not show a partial thickness tear.

You may want to look into short term disability options with your injury or alternatively request to perform functions that do not involve overhead lifting. I am not a doctor but it what I mentioned above re: tendonitis is common knowledge. If you continue to overhead lift those heavy boxes with tendonitis you are not going to let your injury heal and you could make it worse.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

I am around 4 months post op and my pain has almost completely disappeared. I still get the odd twinge, but it is less and less as the weeks go on. I am so glad I had it done, as the issues were also getting to me.

I hope you find a solution that helps you recover
