Leg length

So I found out yesterday that my left leg(operated side) is almost 1 inch longer than my right. The surgeon did say that might happen. Now looking for a shoe insert to bring up my height on right side. I have a feeling that may be part of the reason I am still limping. A small price to pay for getting rid of that awful pain.

Hi
I feel your pain, I've had the op 3 times to correct the leg length from 1.5inches to 1 inch now. I'm going to continue without an insert until my muscles are fully healed then decide if the limp is to much but I'm not going down without a fight.
Good luck

Hi I have a 1.5 leg length discrepancy and hopefully it will be corrected when I have my hip replacement but I would suggest you get an appointment with the podiatry department they will measure you and supply you with lifts.
Did you get a correct measurement by measuring from hip bone to ankle bone

no... the physio therapist was the one who checked... he noticed the way Iwas walking and had a look.

And did he lay you down and measured the legs as I said

Hi Carol
G'day...
I was measured as one inch, 2.4 cms., different, from the hips as I thought was normal.
Puzzled no one else is saying this vanished after six months.
I simply used a couple of scholl cushioning inserts for a while.
I wish you well with your recovery and hope legs get equalised.

He needed to measure from hip to ankle on both legs because after a hip replacement you can appear to have a bigger difference than you actually have, get a flexible tape measure and get your other half to measure for you, then you will get an accurate discrepancy or as near as possible without xray, it's a rarer way to be longer on the operated leg anyway

Thank you! I did not know it could correct itself. I will get some inserts.

Thank you, I will try that.

One inch is not acceptable. I had THR June 2018. Had about a 1/2 inch leg length discrepancy. It is most uncomfortable and not accurate to wear a lift in the other shoe. I tried for a year. I just had revision surgery at HSS last week and am hoping that this helps even a little. I just cannot deal with walking around with a limp for the rest of my life. I found it very difficult to find the proper size lift for the other shoe. I bought lift that were 3/8 of an inch and 1/2 inch and none really worked well. They worked ok when I wore boots over the winter, but not with spring and summer shoes. Try wearing a lift with sandals. I too am not going down without a fight. I too was in awful pain before the surgery but did not expect to have a limp. It is too early for me to know the results of this operation for it is only 10 days and still have staples that will be removed this week.

I have a leg length discrepancy at 10 weeks post-op. My right leg was always a bit shorter than my left and now after the left THR, that difference seems greater, especially if I am tired or have been walking a lot. I was told at my 6 week check up that this is a functional difference, not a structural difference. I have tried a 1/2 in lift with OK results -- at least I am not walking like a penguin. But I have read that using a lift can create a whole host of other problems. I saw my sugeons's PA twice for about 5 minutes at two and six weeks post-op and won't see her again for another 10 months. I am really unsure about how to handle the situation.

Hi I was I left with 1.5inches difference and had to have it revised. I was in pain on my back and took 6 months to walk without a crutch. My surgeon said half an inch difference is normal anything over this is not acceptable. Now I have half inch and finally feel normal no more shoe inserts. 5 months on I can walk as before and long distance and swim and wear sandals. Good luck x
