Leg numbness and pain

For the past few years, i have felt numbness and pain in my both legs. Sometimes I wake up my leg partially numb to completely numb unable to move the leg, usually when i sleep on my back. Theres also been a period of pain ranging from the thigh to the ankle, bottom of my feet turn purple with pain but later turned back to normal colour. Like i said, these symptoms have gone away but pain and numbness occurs time to time. I went to the doctor i got a referral for blood tests but see no reason for further tests. I'm worried, would this be peripheral arterial disease? My doctor didn't see me as a candidate for high cholesterol and such.
