Leg pain

Hi Jillybee. I also have found this site very helpful, I was diagnosed after a two month delay in November 2009.I started on 15mg of pred and am down to 7 and plucking up courage to go down to 6. I am a bit apprehensive as I now have a Bakers cyst which is making my leg more painful than what it usually is. Hope your feeling better,Janbeano.

If you are plucking up the courage to go down to 6mg - can I ask you why you are plucking up the courage?

Are you still in pain on 7mg - pain that is causing you discomfort?

Has your ESR/CRP rate dropped at the last test?

Have you asked to be referred to a Consultant about either PMR and/or the Bakers Cyst, as sometimes in the case of the cyst, there is no need for treatment, they can disappear, but sometimes they need to be drained. I think you should be asking some hard questions about that particular problem.

November 2009 starting at 15mg and now down to 7mg is a more than a 50% drop in less than two months.Prednisolone is not a cure, it just enables you to gain a quality of life, different from before, but better than untreated PMR.

I don't know if you have visited this site pmr-gca-northeast.org.uk, but you will find on that site, BSR guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of PMR.

I am a curious old biddy and wish you had put a bit more information into your post, as we are always learning from others on this site.

Hope to here from you soon and perhaps with a little more information we can be of some help to you.

Hello ! You say you have PMR from November 2009 ? And from 15mg Pred down to 7mg ? That is more than a year ago. Is that right ? Or did you mean November 2010 ? And if so, it is a drastic drop in mgs. I started on 20mgs on July 2010, and now down to 7mgs where I seem to be stuck for a while. I try to drop 1mg only when I feel quite comfortable with the dosage I am on at the time that I feel the pains are not bothering me too much. Do please read the advice of the lovely \"patients\" on this site. They are keeping me going very well, and am so grateful to the all. Hope you will be here again, Granny Moss

    Hi Janbeano,

I too have a baker's cyst behind each knee, which are more uncomfortable than painful. My rheumatologist says they don't usually do anything about them, although my GP says surgery can be performed. I'm hoping mine will disappear on their own!!

    Best wishes,

    Molly.

    Hi Janbeano.

Thanks for responding to my post.

I increased my Pred up to 15mg today and feeling great so far. So it may seem that 10mg is enough steroid for me as yet.

Hi Mrs K, Sorry if I appeared vague, but my Dr asked me if I was brave enough to drop to 6mg as I have been on pred since Nov 2009. My ESR/CRP had both dropped on my last visit to my GP. As for my Bakers cyst, the Dr. sent me for a ultra sound scan as she thought it may have been a DVT as my leg was very swollen. I have visited and am a member of PMR-GCA which I have found really helpful. I am in pain but I would love to come off of steroids if possible, but if the pain gets too bad I will increase them again. Regards Janbeano

    Hi Gillybee and Janbeano,

If its any help I started on 15mgs in late September 2009, dropped to 12.5mgs on 1st Jan 2010, 11mgs on 1st Feb, 10mgs on 1st March and then decreased very slowly at the rate of 1 mg every 7 weeks. I'm now between 4mgs and 5mgs and if all goes well should be off the Prenisolone at the end of August this year. If it doesn't work out I'm not too bothered, will just get on as low a dose as I comfortably can. I learnt very quickly on this forum that fast didn't generally work in the long term, although my Rheumatologist gave a new meaning to the word 'slow' If nothing else PMR has taught me to be patient, but it took a while to figure that one out  My present regime is: Wk 1 - 5554555 Wk 2 5545455 Wk 3 5455454 (and so on until Wk 7 4444444!) No hitches (so far!!!). Keep well.
