Hi alley, I've had lots of pain in my knees and ankles, not so much down my legs with the exception of my rgt shin. But to be honest, since the dx. of pmr, (almost three mo. ago), it seems I've got SO many unexplained aches and pains and side effects, I can't keep track anymore!! Everyday is a New experience, a New battle to be fought! I'm just trying 2 go w/the flo and be as patient as is possible. "Keep on swimming, swimming, swimming"!

    Hi

I have bad pains in my knees and lower legs but have put it down to steroid side effects. I’ve also got a really stiff uncomfortable neck which I assume is also linked to the steroids! Had blood tests on Friday so shall see what they shows up. I’m on 7mg of pred and don’t want to up my dose

I thought the steroids were supposed to relieve the neck stiffness, along with everything else....

At taht dose I would be far more likely to think it was PMR flaring because the dose is too low. Not the pred which gets a lot of blame when actually innocent.

I had severe pain in my calves before starting Pred. During the last few weeks before diagnosis it became unbearable especially in bed or not moving. I felt it was deep, deep in my legs and it was like nothing I had ever had before. As soon as I started Pred it eased with just occasional discomfort. Three years down the line i never get sore calves.

Is there anything that makes it worse?

PS - why did you stop the endep? No doubt the doctor gave it you to see if it helped - it is for nerve pain.

I stopped taking ended to see if the legs had settled down and they haven’t I feel when I’m on them it affects me I feel I’m looking for words if that makes sense.  Back on them my legs are starting to settle down.  Nothing stands out that makes it worse or not.

Does a lower dose of endep help? Or split?

What is endep? I see alot of different drugs on this site which I'm unfamiliar with. Do you know of anything that specifically addresses muscle spasms as I seem to be being plagued by them right now, especially in my back and abdomen. Just not flexiril tho as it gives me "restless legs". Thanks in advance.

endep is a brand name for amitriptyline, a drug used for nerve pain in our context. You can always google a drug name - in the UK we usually use the substance name rather than brand names. One substance can have half a dozen different brand names.

Physical therapy is the best way to address spasmed muscles - there are drugs but they work on all the muscles, not just the ones that are a problem so they cause side effects.

Hi, I get leg pain which I’m hoping will reduce as I taper. At one stage my legs felt very jellified!  I walk and do some gentle yoga to keep the muscle tone. My physio suggested that I put a pillow between my knees when I sleep on my side and this does help.

Thankyou everyone I'll just keep doing what I'm doing for a month then try to reduce by half Pred.
