Leg pain whilst climbing stairs

I am 17 years of age, and for the last 16 months I have been cycling between 18 and 40 miles a week which I know is not a lot for some cyclists but this has been the first time I have cycled in years. Recently, probably sometime in the past few months I have noticed a strong pain in my left lower leg, right at the front whilst climbing up stairs where it feels like my leg is being crushed under the weight of my body. I am not overweight but I have had a quick increase in muscle mass from the cycling. I believe it might be caused by my bicycle seat being adjusted incorrectly but I was wondering if there was a better diagnostics or should I go to the doctors.

You 'should probably get a look from your Dr. Doing some I ncorrectly over and over can definitely cause muscles and ligaments to do things the wrong way and create problems.

Should I refrain from cycling until it has been checked over, or should I just take it slow?, in your opinion.

Yes, you go to your doctor, if it was your seat you wold suffer in the back region.  Where you say you have pain could be a stress fracture (dont worry you wont be put in plaster).  Before you re-started cycling did, you do any strengthening exercises.  Could be that you have started cycling and your muscles have go into a bit of a shock.. Go to your doctor first off.  If they say it is just muscular, do some weight training.

No I haven't done any exercises other than the cycling. What sort of training would be adviced for the legs?

After you get your leg checked out, then start some type of leg strengthening exercises.  Or just plain old cycling without thinking you have to do a marathon. If you have weights, use them.  Sittin on a chair or the edge of the bed and raising your leg is a good one, add weights to your ankle; no weights/ Use something out of the kitchen, a couple of things in a pair of old socks works a treat when you tie them together and drape them over your leg; instant weights.

Alright thank you. I will book a doctors appointment as soon as I can.
