Hi all you fine hippies 😁

OK I'm home at last and wanted to ask about feet elevation, my right foot has swollen badly, 🙄 know a little about keeping your legs / feet elevated. just wanted to ask sitting on sofa what sort of hight should i be trying to achieve, should this be the same height as the sofa you are sitting on ? 👍

Having it higher than the sofa would push the 90° rule yep...😊 Also how often should i be trying for this, during the day, as at night ya in bed yep..😁 Is ice or heat best for the foot, to help with the swollen foot...😁

If sitting could probably do same height with foot rest/ottoman. Use ice pack for about 10 minutes periodically during the day.

If lying down, elevate with a couple of pillows.

That worked for me when I needed to ice my thigh.

From what I was told, sitting on a sofa and trying to elevate your leg and foot is not the best approach. You should be lying down, with your foot elevated higher than your heart. So,a couple pillows under your leg should get you the elevation you need. I usually elevated my leg for 15 to 20 minutes, using ice on my leg.Never did have to ice my foot, and the swelling went down.

My PT told me to do it 4 times a day, with feet propped up on pillows so that they were higher than my heart. She specifically said sitting in an ottoman was not adequate.

I was given compression socks to wear during the day to keep swelling down. I took them off too soon and swelled up quite a bit I put the socks back on and swelling went away. Ice is always better than heat for swelling. Feel better soon!!

The swelling in my whole leg and foot lasted about 3 weeks. I was told to ice the hip area. I iced the side of the hip where the incision was and front of the thigh. Lying down on your bed with your leg propped up on 2 or 3 pillows that also support your lower leg is what my PT showed me. The swelling will go down with time. It is all part of the healing process. I could only wear yoga and sweat pants and couldn't even get my shoes on, so wore an orthopedic flip flops. One day I woke up and it was better. A few days later I woke up and the swelling was gone. Also do ankle pumps and butt squeezes 2-3 times a day. I would do them while lying down with the ice.

I just used to put my feet up on a pouffe about 40 cm high while I was sitting on the sofa; and I put a cold pack thing on the swollen part of my leg. Mostly my leg was swollen in the evening and by morning it had gone down again. It lasted about 3 weeks.

    Good luck!
