legs swelling badly

I had a THR in March 2015, 3weeks later it dislocated,  I've been a little more active after the manipulation, but my legs & feet are swelling up really bad, is this normal?

    Hi Julie,

i think ink to some extent swelling is normal for quite some time after the operation.  I am into my third week and my swelling is considerable.  I cannot get normal shoes on and the swelling is especially bad in the evening.  Did you experience swelling pre your dislocation?

Hi Pam, thanks for your reply.  I did get a little swelling before the dislocation but not as bad as this! I've resorted to wearing the compression socks again, this has helped slightly, I'm into the 6th week now so hopefully they'll go down soon. Take care.

Hi Julie .... do you think  the swelling is caused by the manipulation? Was the swelling gone before the dislocation?  What did they say? I know it is normal for the leg to be swollen for a couple of weeks and sometimes longer ...

I would have it checked though - take good care of yourself ....

Hi Renee, I didn't really get any swelling when I'd initially had it done but, after the manipulation both legs & feet are swollen quite bad.  I've taken advice from the nhs help line, got the lovely white socks back on!  I'll probably be on here a lot asking for advice, it's good to know you've got someone to talk to in the same boat as you! Thanks for replying. Take care.

    Hi Julie,

Both my legs, feet & ankles were swollen for weeks after my L THR ~ it is quite normal, & can last for weeks, or even a few months.  However, hold in there: it will get better. Good luck.

Hi Ross, thanks for your reply.  I was also wandering if you or anyone else could feel the joint, when I've been standing or walking for a while, I sit down & I can feel it, it feels like I've sat on an object, I can also feel it on the side of my hip, I'm so afraid that it's going to pop out again! Never want to go through that again! Take care.

Good morning Julie ... I can feel the hardware too, in my hip and thigh - not in the beginning though but in the last couple of weeks - I don't think that it will pop out that easily - also around or underneath the scar is some discomfort and numbness -

probably my body is working really hard to repair the trauma ????

I watched the surgery on you tube (after surgery!!!) and honestly, since having watched the whole procedure, I have so much more respect and understanding for my body -- it is major surgery after all - this video is not for the weak of stomach -

I had R THR on March 19, 2015 - so we are pretty close in the healing stages ...

right now I am dealing with back spasms ... another neglected muscle group !!! phew ...

take care and be gentle with your self .. we are getting there !!!
