Let's Be Careful!

I had what I would call a very successful double total hip replacement this June 29th. I went back to work on me feet after three months with no medication and was thrilled to finally, after the surgery and recovery, be able to sleep at night without pain!
So I got careless. I started plopping down with my entire weight on my sofa, and Wednesday I did that on a hard surface. I immediately realized I should not have done that--even though initially there was no pain--but throughout the day, the aching intensified. I took off Thursday and Friday and it has gotten better, but my warning is:
DO NOT BECOME TOO COMPLACENT OR CARELESS! It is a wonderful "new lease on life" but we must try not to injure ourselves. I consider my injury the equivalent of a mild fall--winter and ice are coming, so let's be careful. We don't want to hinder our recoveries!

Yes, I live in Ohio. You are so correct. Complacency is the number 1 issue! Great to feel good.... BUT, keep in mind that the stem takes some time to properly anchor into the bone marrow and heal properly. That is not a 1-2 month event. As my doctor has reminded me, "less is more" in the early stages of recovery that really takes up to a year to fully complete.

Glad you didn't cause any major problems and that a couple of days rest put it right, so easy as you say to become complacent isnt it.
Back to being more cautious I bet

Your so right had my RHR 29th June too and yes I feel great. Most days I forget my new hip now ...and as you have said we still need to be careful.
Thanks for the good advice.
Merry Christmas Julie (UK).

Hi Michiana mom
so sorry to hear you hurt yourself, but really pleased no long term injury.
wise words of wisdom .. It's so easy to think it's repaired and not be so careful, I have twisted a few times in the kitchen and had a warning pain ,like you I also took it easy and don't think I have done any lasting damage .
I am walking so carefully outside with all those leaves falling and slippy green patches on the ground. Any ice or snow and I will definately be house bound .
Take care fellow hippy friends
with best wishes

Totally agree with you. I'm 14months RTHR, ran up the stairs in my local school about 6weeks ago. Tripped and landed on my knees. Had pain n femur where stem is but could walk. Pain moved around over the next 3 weeks but all ok. Hubby told me off and I said I forgot! Easy to do when you are no longer stiff and in pain x

Oh man!! Hope all is well! Tell me about it!! Ever since I dislocated my hip and had to have a revision I follow the dr's order to a T!! I'm doing better but I'm in constant watch and fear of all I do as well as the therapist! I question everything they have me doing! They are understanding! But I think I'm getting a little bit too cautious! Every time I think I'm breaking hip precautions at therapy the measure me and tell me I'm not even close! I'm still having issues with hip movement. Still so tight. But I'm getting there! But yes those days when we feel good I think we forget and start doing things we shouldn't be doing! Thank you for the reminder!! Take care! Glad you're ok!! 👌🏽. LD
