Level of plateles steadily decreasing, what could be the reason?

I have posted already about a worrying low level of platelets my husband had on his most recent check-up.

However, going through the old blood tests results, I've noticed that the number of platelets have been steadily decresing over the years. Has anybody had a simillar experience? What could be the problem?

Here are the numbers: (140 000 µg is the minimum):

2010 - 197 000 µg

2011 - 176 000 µg

2012 - 147 000 µg

2015 - 132 000 µg

Otherwise he has good results, apart from HDL cholesterom which has alwyas been lower that the minimum. I've noticed that his lipid levels tend to gravitate towards lower values.

Btw, he does not bruise easily and his bleedings stop very fast.

We're waiting on his doctor's appointment. I'd really be gratful for any ideas.

I think you will have to be patient Masha.  One would hope that, if these results are significant, someone would have picked up on it earlier than now.  Has your husband always been with the same GP Practice?

What country are you in?  I had assumed you were in the UK but now I think that perhaps you are not.

We live in France and have changed a lot of doctors. They didn't pick up because they never look at previous results. They do not have a centralized system which would enable new doctors to have access to your history. I haven't picked up because his numbers were always above the minimum and none of teh doctors never seemed worried.

The only thing I found was that chlorine from pools can sometimes be the cause. He goes swimming at least 4-5 times a week. He's done this for years.

We'll see. Thank you for taking the time to reply once more smile

    Here's an update.

My husband's platelate count went from 132 000 µg to 125 000 µg in less than a month, then to 119 000 µg in less than a week!

His abdominal scanner was clear. He's negative for HIV, Toxoplasmosis, antinuclear antibodies...

He has had in the past the EBV and Tocoplasmosis (traces of old infections). It seems to be the case as well with the Cytomegalovirus, but he'll have to get tested again, as the IgG is really high (>500 U/ml). IgM values stay bellow the limit.

There are slight abnormalities with his globuline levels. Alpha 1 (2.5 g/L, min. level is 2.9 g/L) and Beta 2 (2.7 g/L, min. level is 3.2)are a little bellow the minimum levels.

I'd very much appreciate it if anybody has ideas in which direction to go next. I hope we'll get to see our doctor soon.

    Thanx!
