i want to know can the levels of IGG indicate whether an infection is new or old? also what would be a high level of igg and what would be a low level?

the higher the number, means the longer you've had it. 3.5 needs confirmation testing because cdc says theres a chance of false positives especially if you have no symptoms. but you could also be a symptomatic. If the numbers are low and you have symptoms your body is probably building antibodies and the test hasnt turned positive yet. it can take up yo 6-12 weeks for an igg to show positive. but over 3.5 is possibly positive. it could also mean newly infected. get two test to confirm 6-8 weeks again to confirm.

    less than 1.09 is negative

    over 1.09 positive

hi thanks for the reply. how high do the numbers go up to? and if you had a recent infection (past year or two) what numbers are you looking at?

they pretty much just keep going, up. i think eventually it will stabilize and just go up and down a little depending on an out break. but theres really no number that can identify time. i would assume a number like 8-11 Would be within a year or so. 20's could also be a high number. like within 2 years or so. dont quote me, as im not a doctor. but it takes a while to build antibodies up for hsv. depending on your body. it could take anywhere from 2-3 months just for an igg to show positive, which just lets me assume it would take a while for the numbers to get high.

i have igg 28 and think i caught it in the last year. My other half says that they didnt know they had it. (which is possible of course). they have done an IGG and we are awaiting results. if they had had herpes for the past 10 years or so we can expect to see their igg in the hundreds then?

Anything over 1.1 is considered positive. i tested for an entire year and once it came back equalval meaning an antibody was there, just couldnt be distinguished which or what it was fighting off at a 1.03. tested 6 months later all neg both igm and igg. Its been an entire year and that was the only thing that came up out if the norm.
