Levothyroxine and missing period

Posted , 2 users are following.

i have been on 25 mg of levothyroxine for almost a month now. I experienced severe pms symptoms, cramping, headaches, etc for about a week and i was assuming i would get my period. It’s now three days late and i am wondering if this is normal? I also don’t know if the meds have even started really working yet and this could just be my hypothyroidism? (I am not trying to get pregnant nor do i want to be, lol.. i know this will be brought up!)

I’m just going to reply from personal experience. When I was hypo or not getting enough meds my cycle had trouble starting. I’m a bad patient, there been several times I’ve doubled my dose to help my cycle start. I’m not recommending that. Your body is likely not accustomed to the med yet. You are also on an extremely low dose. Your TSH, freeT3 and T4 also need to be followed. I’ve been on a custom mix now for years. Very helpful. It has decreased my PMS, and cramping. I hope that gives you hope! Also checking your serum ferritin for iron levels has helped manage my symptoms. Simple RBC/HGB/HCT is not an adequate testing especially for women.
