levothyroxine and proximal muscle problems

Hi, I have been using levothyroxine for past few years and have recently developed servere muscle problems in hip/groin area (adductor/ periformus and upper thigh) and in both shoulders. Despite being tested for all sorts of problems no firm diagnosis has been made as all the tests have been negative. My question is - has anyone had anything similar or had side effects to taking levothyroxine?

Hey. I have been on levo since February

When I first started taking it I'd get weird sharp pains in my spleen area (left side of body) above my left breast

He just upped it and now I'm getting the same type of pain left side of my neck. The pain is ALWAYS the left side. Went to Dr today and he wasn't very helpful at all. In search of new doctor.

Im prety much the same with the pain on the left side only. It's painful to sleep over left side. I've been like this for over 5 years and my Endo keeps saying it's not thyroid related, which I totally disagree.

I had all my thyroid removed because of papillary thyroid cancer.

What about you? How long have you experienced this type of pain?

The only way to prove the cause is thyroxine is to stop thlaking it and see if the pain goes away. Discuss with your doctor first. It takes about 10 days for thyroxine to leave your system.

I just started my meds in February. I'm new to hypothyroidism. Never had it until after my 2nd son. So, the pain when I first started lasted a few weeks then went away and the pain in my neck seems to be slowly going away. I've been on a higher dose for 2 weeks now. We shall see

Must likely you are under medicated, that's why you are probably are experiencing less pain due to the increase of the dose.

Update: I have been off of the levothyroxine for a couple of months know. I took myself off. It was only 15 mcg. I am still getting some aching in my legs that come and go but it is getting farther in between. I have been to an intregrative medicine doctor who gets to the root cause of the problem instead of covering it up with medicine. He did extensive blood work and found out I am extremely low in vitamin D and I had hardly any iron in my body. My regular doctor had never taken this extensive type of bloodwork! I really thank God I went and paid this money to get a more extensive test done!!! My insurance covered the blood work I just had to pay the doctor out of pocket. If I didn't go to this doctor being this low on these essential vitamins I could get cancer, brittle bones, messed up thyroid, etc. The doctor put me on pharmaceutical grade vitmain D 20,000 iu a day for two months and pharmaceutical grade liquid iron twice a day. This defiency he said can mess your thyroid up! I have been feeling so much better! I will have another blood test done in a month to check my levels so I will keep everyone updated. Hope you all feel better soonsmile I defenitly know how you feel!!

Is there an upper limit for vitamin D? I was low in vitamin D and was prescribed 10,000 a day (split between 5 doses) for 30 days, or 10,000 a day for 30 days. It was easily enough. I went from 34 to several hundred.

I was told by an endocrinologist that ferritin needs to be 70+ to be able to absorb thyroxine properly and that low iron goes hand in hand with hypothyroidism. Also need to check Folate levels (folic acid fixes low folate).
