Lexapro/cipralex....not sure what to do

I was on 20mg lexapro for major depression and weaned off in September 2017. November end, two months after being off, onset of anxiety and minor depression hit literally overnight which apparently is hormonal so i jumped back on 10mg  lexapro for a little over 6 weeks now mostly And 4 days at 12.5mg. I am super sensitive to meds and jumping on 10mg was so brutal at times. now I feel flat most of the day. Not really depressed but just unmotivated, scared, no joy, no excitement. I typically feel better in the evening. I wanted to keep the dosage low because it wasn’t as severe as my last episode and they also gave me hrt to add this time. I am at 6 weeks and still not back to normal and wonder if maybe lexapro isn’t working this time. Is 6 weeks too soon? I will see doc soon but wondering what people with experience would do. I hate this flat feeling and want to be happy again.  Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Erin from Calif... This is Nickie54 from Texas.. I've been on Lexapro for 2weeks and 3 days.. the road is not Fabulous but I feel like I'm making head way.. I'm very sensitive to meds and I started out taking 2.5 first week then 2nd week 5.0 now as of today 7.50.. I feel somewhat better as far as GAD and Panic and heart racing.. but the flat feeling I still have and the down mood and no motivation.. and I'm not like that at all but I feel like with what I've read on this Blog/web site is that u must wait it out.. 6-10 weeks.. just b patient .. and hang on for the ride may get a little Bumpy.. but will smooth out in time.. stick to what u r doing and I To am using some Hormone Cream.. I was taken off of it for 6 weeks and I think it was the straw that broke me.. but I Pray that Lexapro is my Medicine.. I'm going to wait this out and see because I do feel somewhat better.. just with my heart calming down is a Blessing.. Your Aniexty Friend In Texas...

Hi Nickie, I too stopped my estrogen, and it all came back! Hormones are crazy! I regret not trying to patch for a week or so to see if it would improve, instead I freaked out and jumped on Lexapro at 10mg and was a zombie for a few weeks. Should have started slowly. I sometimes want to wean off and see if the patch will work alone but I feel like I have come this far, I should see it through because starting up would be dreadful again!  I am getting ready to bump up to 15mg as I think 20mg was the magic dose for me so I am trying very hard to be patient. Good luck and let's keep in touch! I am almost at 7 weeks on Lex now (12.5mg for 6 days).Prayers for us all! btw, I am originally from Texas smile

Erin from Calif... I think stopping the hormone cream just pushed me over the top but I think it was a Blessing for I probably would have never tried another medicine .. I have been on so many that made me crazy .. so I'm going to stick Lexapro out for a while.. my OBGYN did a saliva test on me and Lexapro was a Good Candidate for my DNA.. Stay in touch and Take Care..😊

      Hi Erin,

Just to let you now don’t be discouraged of the side effects repeating again, every dose increase is waiting time again, I start feeling better after 7 weeks on increase of 20 mg.

After three months now I feel almost normal... just be patient and count weeks extad of days you will get better.

I am so glad you are doing so much better!! Thank you for the encouragement. This is a big jump for me, 12.5 to 20mg but I am tired of waiting to feel better.  Fingers and toes crossed for all of us!

Miso, 3rd day on 20mg and wondering when side effects are going to kick in. What side effects did you get and when did they kick in? I fell a little more anxiety and depression still hanging in there but manageable so far. Hope you are doing well still!

      Hi Erin,

Most people don’t have intense side effects after dose increase, I was experiencing same side effects like starting escitalopram from 10mg.

Second week after upping the dose was worst, it was very slow process for me, after 7 weeks on 20 mg. I start to feel better, my motivation and mood was coming back, now after two months on increase dose feeling better (90%) still some slight anxiety but every week feeling small improvement.

Good luck and keep us posted of your  progress.

I wish I would have just jumped to 20 right away but was hoping I didn't need that much again. Thanks for the insight. Hugs and hope you are having a good day!

I kick myself for stopping! What a dumb mistake. Amazing how we forget how crappy it is to feel this way. So scary. I plan to stay on for a while this round. I just hope it works again!
