Lexapro vs Prozac

I have been on Lexapro for about a year and a half. When I first started the medication it worked wonders, and as many do once I felt better, I wind myself off of it… Only to have my symptoms come back a month or so later. I tried coping with the symptoms of depression and social anxiety and everything else, but they continue to get worse. I went back on the Lexapro shortly after that and my system went somewhat back to normal. All in all, I never had any harsh side effects from Lexapro only some mild sexual issues… Loss of libido.

Today, the Lexapro is not working as it once did, and I really don’t want to just keep increasing dosages. I think my body got a little immune from going on and off of it.

I tried and Trintellix and Viibryd but neither seem to agree with me. At this point, the Lexapro is not working as it once did, and I really don’t want to just keep increasing dosages And or playing games with medications. I think my body got a little immune and or playing games with medications to the Lexapro from going on and off of it.

My doctor perscribed me Prozac while I was In between medications, only to control with drawl symptoms. From what I remember, it’s someone agreed with me, I don’t recollect having any issues as I did with other medications. Tomorrow I plan on transitioning from the Lexapro to the Prozac. I am unable to find any good information comparing the two medications.

All in all , If anyone could shed some light on their experiences with either just taking Prozac or going from Lexapro to Prozac or vice versa, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there. My lexapro pooped out on me after 7 years. I tried going up and it didnt help at all. I am now on prozac in week 9. I have had very few side affects and went from 20 to 30 mg in week 8. Just know Prozac can take a while to work. I saw good results in weeks 3-5, but then week 6-7 my anxiety returned. Went up to 30mg and things seem to be back on track. Hope this helps and send good vibes your way. I also pray a lot which helps bc im a christian.

Thank you so much, yes this helps a lot. It gives me peace of mind as to what I should expect, I made the mistake of not doing my research when I first started antidepressants so it was all a learning experience, I figure the more I know the better I will be this time around. Thank you again for sharing your story with me, it is truly appreciated!

Hi Albert, I have tried 3 different anti depressants in my lifetime I'm 29 years old. I tried celexa first for 4 months when I was 22 and I found it worked but left me emotionless. When at 25 I tried Lexapro for 9 months and I have never felt worse in my life the side effects were so severe in 2019 I was so afraid to try any medication again but after a few months of side effects I feel normal and happy on prozac! Keep trying medications until you find one that suits you there is no quick road to recovery with any medication you need to give your brain and body time to adjust. I personally found prozac the most positive of all 3 but I had a horrible reaction to lexapro

Thank you so much for sharing your story, I know that’s not always easy.

I never thought I suffered from depression but I know mood issues run in my family. I was diagnosed with personality disorder many years ago, I am 37 now. Also when I was 19 I had my gal bladder out and my GI tract was never the same.

Two years ago my anger and GI issues grew so bad I couldn’t handle it. Many recommended an anti depressant and claimed it could help both.

I was fortunate to not have many side effects from the Lexapro aside from decreased libido, but when I came off of it I did have withdrawals and my gastrointestinal issues intensified. I am only taking it now to avoid withdrawals it is not helping anything else.

Tomorrow I’m starting the Prozac and am nervous and excited. Your post gave me some hope. It’s refreshing to know I’m not alone in this struggle lol.
