Dr stated I can shower without coving foot on Sunday. Which makes it 3 days after stitches removed. I ask may I put coconut oil or lotion on foot and area after shower?

Hi Sandra! I've been using EOs (essential oils) ever since my stitches were removed, but only on the surroundings from 2-4wks post op to help minimize inflammation that followed my ROM exercises. Once my steri strips fell off and all scabbing were gone, I began using the EOs directly massaging on to my incision to help soften the scar tissue as well as soften the stiff tissue surrounding the big toe joint. There are countless benefits to using EOs as you may already know, but the major reason I use it for aside from minimizing inflammation is that it helps w scar treatment in that it helps lighten the scar and heals faster than usual. My Dr said scars always look worse before they get better especially since our blood rushes to that lower extremity of our bodies after having such surgery and having to elevate for most of the time. Massaging my whole foot w EOs was recommended by my Dr but only when I inquired for his approval. It seems most Dr won't tell you unless you ask. So do your research and don't hesitate to ask your Dr. My Dr has been excellent in sharing and being forthcoming w a lot of hepful info, but he totally opened up w all kinds of good advice when it came to using EOs for post op treatment.
Hope that bit of info helps!!

Hi Marie! Seems like we're about the same time frame. I had my Bunionectomy (Austin/Chevron) on Jan 22nd - currently approaching 12-wks post op this Monday. I still experience some swelling as expected and noted by my Dr, but am thankfully up and about and back to using regular shoes (non-pointy shoes) since 6-wks PO. Actually just came back from a trip and was sure to have my EOs for relaxing at the end of each day, especially after one night in heels for a couple hours. Won't be doing that again anytime soon. 😬
As for EOs, I use two blends - one in a glass dropper bottle, and the other in a roll-on bottle. I use these interchangeably, massaging them all over my foot to minimize inflammation, during ROMs to soften tissue surrounding big toe and the metatarsal, and directly on my scar for scar treatment. All the ingredients have anti-inflammatory properties, but the most effective ingredient among those listed below is the Helichrysum. After long days on my feet, I use these on my whole foot to bring down the swelling and elevate. I don't ice as much as I probably should due to the inconvenience of it, but these blends have helped me tremendously. Hope you finds these beneficial to you too.

You're welcome, Marie! Not sure where you're at geographically, but here in the USA, I get my EOs at local health stores - Whole Foods, or at Earth Fare. Trader Joe's is another good health store but unfortunately they only carry Tea Tree Oil but at a very good price. I wouldn't recommend ordering EOs online as the sources can be questionable. I actually did that once via Amazon and the bottle arrived depleted. Thankfully Amazon was quick to reimburse me for that. So I would recommend trying your local health stores. And if possible, get the organic pure EOs. They might be a little more price wise, but it's worth it.
