LHR coming soon. Am I expecting too much?

Greetings gang. I'm from knee group. Now need two new hips, probably soon, so says x-ray and Surgeon. I'm 66, fit, not as active as I'd like to be, however travel 4-5 trips a year to Asia and usually walk 3-6 Kms most days. My question is should hip surgery recovery be a quick one compared to knee. I want to be travelling in 4-6 weeks. Expectations too high? Thanks for input.

    Hi Lynne

    Nice to hear from you...

Feel the fear and do it anyway! Recovery slow at first but within year your walking should be back where it is now but also pain free. Yes hips heal faster than knees if you exercise and not sit around feeling scared.

I'm 74 yo, walk n run and swim. Life is good

Hi mic. Yes, life is good. I'm not a bit fearful especially after undergoing two knee replacements! If one can survive that..well one can survive and thrive... most anything. It's just fitting surgery in! I know it'll have to be done this year, however I want to postpone it until it's absolutely necessary. I walked 6 Kms yesterday, had a great massage and a swim and feel great today apart from a few twinges! Nothing that 2 paracetamol osteo can't fix! Thanks for your input. xx

PS. 4 to 6 moths seems most sensible for travel agree, but exercise from day one as per physio advise, and aim at 4_6 weeks before handing in loo seat, crutches etc.

    Take care and good luck

It will be faster than a knee but longer than four weeks. I was back at work and doing well by six weeks but a lot of people take three months.
