Lichen medication when trying to conceive

Hi, so I've had lichen schlerosis for a couple of years. The treatment I found worked for me was amitriptyline and steroid cream. We are now trying to conceive and I read online that amitriptyline isn't safe during pregnancy so I went to the Gp to ask today. All he said was take it if the risks outweigh the benefits but couldn't tell me what the risks are. He also said I could switch to piriton which seems odd to me? Anyone had experience of medications for this during trying to conceive or pregnancy please?

It was prescribed by the gynaecologist. It stops the itching over night (though it does also make me drowsy). I've tried coming off it before but ended up with it flaring up
