Lichen planus?

hi i have been reading the posts as my GP diagnosed this. i have had it before but the other time was white patches down below. This time, no patches but terrible sore. she told me not to use any feminine washes but to use only water. Now she has prescribed betnovate which i am reluctant to use as I have had so much steroid cream on my body due to itchy spots lasting around two years. I should also add that I am cursed with a prolapse which I thought was adding to my troubles. My question is, is my GP wrong with her diagnosis and should i just go with the olive oil and not use more steroid cream on my body as its worrying me a lot.

Bianca, you have to make up your own mind on what you put on your body. Personally, I would never use steroid creams as they thin the skin and can sometimes make conditions worse, sadly it is all doctors can prescribe, I believe nature has something that will work for most conditions.
Maybe try the olive oil for 2/3 weeks and see how you feel, then you will know if it works for you. It will certainly stop the soreness and keep your skin soft.

Hi I have to say in the beginning I used the steroid cream because I was desperate but seldom need to use it now thankfully. I have long since stopped using soap down there although I use shower cream on the rest of my body. I found a water based cream called Aqueous Creme which can be used as a cream cleaner for those areas and its been great for me for over 3 years. Dont know if youre in the UK or not but I can buy it in most Chemists here in Scotland for £1 per huge tub. I also started taking Vitamin D capsules just one a day again over the first few weeks of taking that its made a massive difference to me. Its a case of trial and error which is a bit of a pain but worth it when you find what works for you. I wish you luck and patience

Okpeeps, has there been no progression of the disease or no discomfort? Were you specifically diagnosed with LS? I have been taking vit D, calcium and magnesium for my bones for years but unfortunately was diagnosed with LS last spring despite taking it. Maybe we all have various deficiencies and until we isolate the correct one we won't see any improvement.
I'm also taking Boron as a supplement as it was mentioned in a book on autoimmune disease. It's where Borax comes from which many women claim helps them topically. No change from taking that either. Do wish there were studies being done so we wouldn't all have to be flailing.

Hi Beverly528. youre spot on with the flailing comment !! Vitamin D has certainly helped me. However everybody is different and sadly everybody has differing arguments from GP's and various health professionals. It is the most hellish of conditions. You will have learned early on that you cannot take your eye off the ball at anytime. It's not a condition you can chat about with even your closest friends unless they are clued up on it or suffer from it themselves. Yes I was diagnosed just 3 years ago both by my female GP and dermatologist who both said it can only be managed by using steroid cream ?? No one wants to use these creams and lotions indefinitely .... really ?? Sex with my partner can be good if we dont rush penetration but even yet I sometimes sting and it can take a week to get back to 'normal' . LS affects me at my perinium .. the bit between my vagina and back passage ... what can I say ?? Trial and error.
This forum has been a Godsend ... without the help and advice on here from others I would still be suffering daily. Here's to further research and breakthroughs. Big hug to you x

Hi, i have used that cream before and will start using again. Regarding the olive oil, i am not so sure but will give it a go and leave the Betnovate off if I can. As I said I have so much steroid creams of one sort or another for years on the itchy spots on my body. So frustrating as I have always had perfectly clear skin until old age got to me. Like you I have been taking vit D tabs for a long time and still continue to do so. I now feel depressed with being told that I have LS again and keep hoping GP is wrong. i would like to see a dermatologist to confirm but didnt like to ask as I felt she make think I am questioning her judgment. i would be happy to hear from you again if you hear of anything else that may help with this pesky ailment. thanks for replying anyway
