I have just found this forum and have the same complaint as all the above. After 3 years of misery with itching, soreness and pelvic pain (burning), I have this week seen an cancer specialist who diagnosed LP on the outside of the vagina and low grade viral cancer which I think is linked to the HPV virus inside the vagina.
I have been given Dermovate cream to use for a month, then Betnovate Cream to use for a month and then I am to use a hydrocortisone ointment thereafter. I don't know if this treatment as yet is going to be successful, but if any of you ladies have any other treatments that have been successful at least to relieve the burning, itching and pain, I would be grateful if you could help me. I am 68 years old, and find this very stressful. I cannot wear trousers or, indeed, any underwear as this is too sore. Thanks to anyone who can help.

I am pleased for you that you found this site and hope as you suggested that we can communicate.
I am sorry that you suffered so long. Did you have a vaginal discharge. Did you attend a gynaecologist or a dermatologist with your condition.
You say that the cancer specialist diagnosed LP on outside of Vagina and low grade viral cancer on inside of Vagina. Could you tell me please how this specialist made the two diagnoses.
Did you have to have biopsies taken to confirm both of these conditions. Did the specialist explain if the LP progressed to viral cancer and if these two conditions are related.
Do you have a follow-up appointment with this specialist.
My gynaecologist took 4 biopsies. I await the result of these in order to have my condition diagnosed. The biopsies were extremely painful. Look forward to hearing from you
