    Hi Joodie,

I wish I was as sure as you seem to be about Altzeimers. I understood that it is becoming a very big problem in the UK!! However, you are quite right; we have to stay as positive as we can! I have learned so much on this forum.

    Thank you to everybody.

Hi Horses. yes for England and Wales I'm finding it says prevalence for any dementia is 1 in 100 age 65 to 69, 1 in 25 age 70 to 79, 1 in 6 age 80 plus.

I have more hope than certainty to be sure. If ever I can find out how this problem is managed I will come back here and tell .

Hi, thank you for your kind words..it's made me feel like someone out there gets it!! So thank you!!

However, now I'm concerned that I've missed somewhere the link between LP and dementia?! Is this true? Or are you just worried about getting that on top of this crappy disease?! Now I'm paranoid that I have early signs having in a rush coming in from shopping the other day and unpacking food and preparing kids dinner...I unpacked the fruit in the saucepan and emptied the mince in the fruit bowl!!! Ha ha, am sure it's just a case of 'doing too many things at once'...at least I hope to god it is!!

Again, can't thank you enough...will battle on but so nice knowing there are people out there who I can talk to..and perhaps fingers crossed one day share my joy that I'm clear!!

Oranges? Oh no, I love them..didn't realise they aggravated...(emptying fruit bowl as I type this!)

Young? Mmm...wouldn't go that far, younger than my mum..but wrong side of 30..soon to be..I can't even type it!!

Thanks guys, speak with you all soon!

LOL. Don't worry Fiona, we all do daft things like that when our minds are on too many things at once. You are perfectly normal. x

Hey, there's NO link LS/LP to dementia. Horses and I were just looking ahead and wondering "if" we got dementia how our LS conditions would be managed that's all.

Oh yes, I am 75 and you are in your twenties - you are positively ancient you know that? Take care. J.

    Hi Girls!

I have LP on my nails for a looooong loooong time! All doctors always told me that there is no way to treat the nails. once they are gone, they are gone for ever.

But I still wanted to see if anybody has any Idea or knows about a treatment that could possibly be helpful.

    Thank you

Not heard of anything Mikela. I am lucky with only several ridged fingernails and one crumbly thumb nail which is the worst.

It splits vertically part way in ,each side grows separately and to stop it catching I keep it cut well into the nail bed.

The LP itself has stopped spreading but odd how the affected nails maintain their dysfunction.

It 's as if everyone ran out of the house but left the radio on.

    Hi Joodie!

I was sadly not that lucky. 3 of my finger nails grow kinda normal but the rest of them and the thumbs are just as you described. vertical splits and then they grow weird and uneven. But the worst are my pinkies and my big toes. The nail is totaly gone!! sad and they are super sensitive and painful.

I always stick artificial nails on my fingers. I am not sure if it doesn't make it any wors. But I tried it with out for 6-7 years and honestly the pain of peoples reactions was unbearable for me. I remember a doctor telling me many years ago, that by the time you see the signs of it on the plate of your nail, the "roots" are already so damaged that they can't be fixed anymore...

Hi, I am completely devastated as I have just been told after a couple of months of pure hell I have litchen planus. I have it all over my hands and arms, back and in my mouth and down below as well as some on my legs. the doctor wanted to start me on immune suppressant drugs today but said only a consultant is allowed to prescribe them so I have to wait till next week when I am seeing the consultant. the doctor in the mean time has started me on steroid tablets and steroid gel which so far hasn't stopped the itching. I a really upset at the news today as it the outlook does not seem to look good with this

Sorry to hear about your lichen planus. I am having a bad week too. My dermatologist says I am looking very inflamed and must use steroid cream daily for 3 weeks and then every other day. When I next see her, she says she may need to do ANOTHER biopsy, as it is not a good sign. I am trying to keep cool, as stress makes it worse!! My imagination is going riot!

    Take care...

Hi, I have had oral lichen planus for over 20 years, but in the last year it has moved onto my back, and sometimes it goes near my nether regions!.....luckily for me I discovered homeopathy works, Arsenicum Album, every single time without fail, so it may be worth trying, its never let me down when I have had a bad flare up..

Just in case it helps anyone else........I was plagued by Lichen Planus for about 7 years. (intermittently).....arms, legs and groin.

    I saw Vitamin D suggested on the web.........It works!!!Almost magic.......I haven't suffered for over a year

The simplest remedies are often the best.

I was diagnosed with Lichen Planus: red spots mainly on forearms, lower legs and also on abdomen, Excrutiatingly itchy. So bad that I sometimes scratched until it bled.

I tried anti-histamine creams and ointments and tablets (Cetirizine), utra-violet treatment and avoiding the sun alternatively, vitamin D - all to no avail. Three years of agony and unsightliness.

Then a dermatologist advised the use of "Cetraben" which is simply white parafin wax in a liquid parafin base. I was told to use it all over my body daily rubbing it well in so that a thin film of parafin covered and protected all my skin. I used it every day after bathing and within a fortnight the Lichen Planus had vanished. It has not returned for the last five years but I continue the treatment which keeps my skin supple and smooth despite my age (76).

Cetraben contains no medication or perfume and simply provides a protective coating to the skin. It is similar to E45 cream but I prefer the texture and Cetraben is cheaper.

Try it. It can do no harm. Best wishes.
