Lichen Planus and LS

Posted , 9 users are following.

Hi

The doctor told me yesterday I have both Lichen Planus and LS in my vagina.  I have mild LP in my mouth.  I am on thr Clobesterol ointment.  This condition is very painful.  Can anyone advise on how long it takes to improve?

What should I  be doing apart from drastically reducing sugar, taking probiotics, and douching with baking soda?

I am so sorry to hear about your condition esp so since you have it in  your mouth as well as in your private areas. It really takes a "powerwoman" to tide over this intensly stressful and chronic disorder.

Just a week ago I was skimming through some medical pamphlets at my mothers consultation room (She being a doc). I was surprised to see "clobesterol" listed as the most potent of steroids in the scale. My doc prescribed me this for my mouth on the very 1st instance (that was Dec 2012). My journey from a benign OLP condition to a rampant tissue altering condition started with this creme. Later on many docs questioned to the use of clobesterol as a 1st line medication.

My suggestion to you is read up on all the blogs. It will take a lot of time and you most probably will take that time out. Start with simple yoga that de stress - like meditation along with breathing exercises twice a day for 30 minutes.

Keep your mouth very very clean. Salines washes as many time as is required. Keep bacterial and fungal infections at bay and if they attack, then they should be identified and snuffed out ASAP.

Be persistant. Dont let doctors use you like a guinea pig taking tissue samples. OLP is readily identifiable with a led torch. As it progresses the lesions can cover up the silver streaks.

Sorry to hear of your discomfort and diagnosis. You are doing the right things (no sugar, probiotics). Rajeshkiwi is right about keeping your mouth super-clean. I try to rinse my mouth after eating just a few bites of food. If I brush with toothpaste or baking soda every time, my mouth just becomes more irritated. Speaking of baking soda, I mostly brush with that. My sister also has OLP and had much success with sticking to baking soda. Yes, clobetosol is like hitting a housefly with a hammer. It can definitely produce a rebound inflammation if used a lot. I was prescribed this only in the beginning, when my OLP was at its worst. I have a tube of fluocinonide to use sparingly. It's less powerful. I also use "magic mouthwash" prescribed by my oral pathologist. Since we aren't allowed to name a product, I will add that I clean with a jet-powered water instrument a few times a week (you know its name), but have to be careful because that can upset the mucus membranes too!

Good luck to you, and keep us all informed of your progress!

Thank goodness I have not had this in my privates.

Thanks Carolyn for sharing. It is when we colaborate information that our own experiences get validated. I need to go for a dental polishing as my teeth go yellow after 2-3 months. I was told to avoid chemicals like H2O2 (Hydrogen peroxide etc) as they may hurt the mucous memberane. So it is dental polishing as opposed to whitening procedure.

hi there i am so sorry to hear that you are suffering with this horrible skin condition. i too suffer with Lp in the mouth and Ls in the vagina . i`ve had this for just over 10 years it took the doctors here in the uk a long time to diagnose the Ls "years" so its good you know what you have. I have tried just about everthing that the doctors here have thrown at me and i have found non to do much at all , having said that we are all different and i think its better to listen to people that have the condition as you pick up sooo much more from this. The good news is i`ve just changed dentist and she recomended oranurse it`s an unflavoured toothpaste and it`s absolutely brilliant, i couldn`t use any toothpaste it was so very painful i can`t tell you .It really helped my Lp it hasn`t gotten rid of it but it`s so much better and cleaning my teeth now is pain free at last. I`m not sure if anyone else has mentioned this as i havn`t read all the chat but if not i hope this helps at least one of your conditions! I can get it from my dentist and its sold on amazon which is great to buy in bulk . kind regards

    Hello 'suggested'

Think about changing your diet to wheat and gluten free!

It seems a bit of a bind, but today I have made a start and I don't know if it's working yet, but day one, and no burning pain!

I shall know more in the days to follow, but it is something to think about.

If changing your diet can fix your health problem, it is worth it!

      Hello Powerwoman,

I did what you suggest and more besides, taking in dairy and egg, with th result that I lost around 5 stone and reduced my cholesterol to the lower end of the acceptable range.  It seems that these foods had triggered intolerances and stopping them got rid of all the water retention and I've been a lot healthier since.  Most pain disappeared with the weight loss.  All this took over a year to accomplish and it turns you into an avid label reader on all the foods that we buy as substitutes.  For me it was 100% worth it and while that doesn't work for all, it is well worth the effort to find out if it works for you.  Best of luck in your trials.
