Lichen Planus blood test results

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have recently changed dentist and during my visit to the new one, the dentist pointed out that she thinks I have a condition called Lichen Planus. She referred me to a consultant. When seeing the consultant, they confirmed it was the condition they thought and did blood tests as well as making me an appointment for an oral biopsy on 7th June.

I had a call from the hospital last Friday. The lady said she had been asked to bring my appointment forward as they have the results. I explained thar I hadn't even had the biopsy done yet, but she said they need to bring the appointment forward anyway. Could this be because the blood tests have come back showing something?

    Hello Lou,

sorry can't help about the blood tests. Did you get an answer when you went to the appointment? When I had a tooth out today, my dentist said she thought I might have lichen planus and has referred me to a consultant. I had never heard of it, so any information would be useful.

Hi jeanp, I hadn't heard of it either. I did have sore patches inside my cheeks every now and then but had no idea it could be anything wrong.  I had a biopsy done which wasn't too bad. I now have to get it checked every 6-12 months. The consultant said it can be caused by an autoimmune condition. At the time I wasn't diagnosed with any such condition, however I have since been tested for thyroid problems and have high levels of TSH which causes hypothyroidism.

Don't feel too worried about going, just make sure you ask all the questions you can think of as my consultant wasn't very forthcoming with info.

Hope everything goes OK for you

Thanks Lou. It made sense when I read it could be an autoimmune condition, I have chronic fatigue (not diagnosed yet as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome though), and think that may be autoimmune related. So does your LP and go, depending on your state of health? or are you generally free of it?

It seems to come and go but flares up when I'm really exhausted and run down. I'd originally been diagnosed with fibromyalgia which is similar to CFS.
