Lichen planus or Lichen Sclerosus

Hi, I was diagnosed with Lichen planus through a tongue biopsy almost 20 years ago, but I am confused today, as reading through some of these posts on Lichen Sclerosus it seems like I have this as well, or maybe not, how on earth can you be clear which you have...

The changes to the skin structure are different, Guppy, and can only really be ascertained by biopsy.

I had lichen planus first , mouth plus other body parts, then later came lichen sclerosus in the vulval area.

I have not asked for a biopsy as the treatment is the same but many women are offered them.

    Hi Guppy,

I have Lichen Planus in my mouth and Lichen Sclerosis down under. I only can tell because of the different locations and LS after biopsy. In general - both are auto immune diseases. A never ending struggle nevertheless. Other skin problems elsewhere. And, sorry, I have no clear answers. Who does?

    Hanny.

Hi, I am a professional complementary and holistic therapist. We need to balance our immune system to gradually make inroads into these auto-immune diseases. In truth, any disease or illness is due to an imbalance in the immune system. Some are more serious than others. Getting your acid/alkaline balance right is key to recovery. To do this you need to eat predominantly an alkaline diet. This is mainly vegetables and salads, and most fruits. (Tomatoes and oranges metabolise as acid). Lots of greens, lots of water, daily walks to get the lymph flowing and doing its detoxifying job properly. Cleansing foods and avoid refined foods. Swedish Bitters helps as it balances the acid/alkaline throughout the bodily systems. Deal with any stress as this creates an acid environment in the body. As does alcohol and smoking and all refined foods and drinks. Cut out sugar as much as possible and caffeine. Lippu oil is very soothing to both LP and LS whether on the vulva or anywhere else. This has helped my symptoms in less than a week,
