Lichen Planus - please read

Hi

I have suffered with LP for 36 years and have tried every cream, diet or latest fad that i could find. After my latest dissapointment, made in america, £35, has the word EMU in it, please avoid! my partner plodded off yet again to the chemist and returned with something i had never tried, good old CALAMINE LOTION!!!! and its so cheap!!

Every night, warm bath in baby bath, then smothered in calamine, if you have soft cotton gloves tape them on to stop night scratching. It is already drying it out and the spots are dropping off, plus no sticking to clothes or sheets. It forms a barrier on you unlike creams and potions. I swear i have tried every pill, cream, potion, and fad. Please please try this and would love th hear if it works for you. And maybe us poor sufferers can stop lining the pockets of companies who know just how desperate we can become.

Good luck xx

I am sorry you have suffered for so long  sad  What a great and simple solution for your itching!!!! I have Oral Lichen Planus and Lichen Planus. I am only 8 1/2 weeks in since my diagnosis. I have already given up on ALL doctors. First the doctor had me on high doses of Prednisone....which did in fact clear up all of my random rashes. My mouth is a problem....went back to the doctor last Monday  and she gave me pills commonly used to treat MALARIA!!! I took one that morning and one at dinner time...they made my heart rate double. Yesterday I went and saw a natural healer. She made me up some special tea....I had a pounding headache (because I am now on such a low dose of Prednisone) and she put four drops of some secret liquid in the tea I was drinking and my headache was gone instantly and my tongue and mouth stopped hurting. It's not a cure just a natural pain medicine. She also wants me to change my diet. NO sugar and everything must be organic. The list of foods that she says I can eat is not very many. I'm actually extremely hungry right now  sad  She says she has in fact cured people with autimmune problems. Although she had never heard of OLP or LP. I sure hope it helps. My mouth is so sore. Thanks for sharing your story!

      Hi

You poor thing. The one placed i have never had it too bad is my mouth. My tongue gets a little sore sometimes. Have you ever tried Corsodyl mouth wash. Swill it round your mouth and let it lay on your tongue for a bit. It may sting alittle but afterwards it should feel relieved. It also fights infection in the mouth just in case there is any there. My partner had really sore gums last week and after one wash round with it he felt a lot better. Could be worth a try.

I will try it Wendy, thanks!!!!!! The inside of my cheeks are all tore up too. Before I went to a dermatologist I spent thousands of dollars on specialists over a 5 1/2 month period. Ugh....

Thanks Wendy for this tip! How long did you use the Calamine lotion for before you noticed the spots going?

It has only been four days and the relief was instant. I have got up this morning and I am astounded by the difference it has made. More unbelievable is the fact that after all these years it's the only thing I never tried. It is completely drying it out. Top tip as well, cut down and file finger nails then when you try to scratch all you get is friction pain in your fingertips which soon stops you!

Great idea! Because once you start scratching - difficult to stop!

Absolutely ! And did you know that any wound, cut or scratch you get has the potential to turn into LP? If you succumb to that 'healing itch ' it will become another sore. So be careful of that.

I have been diagnosed with Lichens Planus of the nails, also referred to as 20 nail dystrophy.  I have lost all my finger and toe nails.  It is very sensitive to touch and makes routine daily tastes difficult. It is amazing how many tasks involve the use of our finger nails. Not to mention the protection which the nails provide.

Another symptom which I have is high Ferritin levels in my blood.  Would this be a problem associated with Lichens Planus.  What are your readings are they normal?

Perhaps there is a relationship between the two conditions.

I am trying to determine why I have this LP and am searching for answers.

      Hi Carolyn

So sorry to hear of your plight. I have heard LP can affect nails but not to the extent you are suffering. As for ferritin I have never heard of it nor has it ever been mentioned to me? What is it and what does it do?

Would taking a skin, hair and nail supplement help or is that not advised. I wish I could help more but I have never heard of this happening before.

Ferritin readings refer to the amount of saved iron in your body.  My levels are very high.  You would need to have a blood test and a request for your ferritin levels.

And the iron is the cause of the problem is that what they are saying ? I thought problems were caused by low iron. So why is this doing this to you? Have they explained why? Do u think they may have diagnosed wrong? How do u reduce the iron?
