Lichen Planus treatment

I need to know what drugs that anyone with systemic LP, oral, esohogeal, opthalamic and vaginal has been treated with that has helped.  I am on FMP eye ointment at night and lotemax drops at night and have had jones tubes put in my eyes to drain the tears. For the esophagus I took  nystatin tabs for a week with some improvement and for the vaginal tx i use anusol HC suppositories vaginally 3-4 times weekly.  They started me on steriod shots x 2 months then switched me to Cyclosporine 100mg tabs 2 x daily but had to stop since it elevated my BP.  Just wondering what kind of treatments others have had luck with. Thanks

Hi Janice. How long have you had lichen planus I have had it for 13 years but just recently it's bothering me my arms are covered in a rash which my doctor only gave me e45 which does nothing  he won't actually say it's LP but I have it orally so I know it's on my body do you know what caused yours Janice ?  I had an abnormal smear test when I started with this and I think it's all linked.

I have had LP for 2.5 years but my is internal,  no rashes on body. I have oral flare ups approx. every 2months.  Get frequent dental cleaning and this will help. Wish you well.

Hi Janice  I am quite new to LP, having had my oral LP confirmed only last month. At the moment I am not on any medication for it, although I have been given Difflam mouth wash to use if I need it. I understand that usually steroids are used either in a cream for skin or mouthwash for OLP. I think its seems to be a case of seeing what inflames the LP and avoiding certain foods. I can't drink anything too hot and try to avoid sharp, scratchy foods. I think I may also have had a bout of vulval LP, although the consultant didnt confirm this. I had Fucibet cream which seems to have helped. It sounds like you have it quite widespread. I hope you manage to find something that works well for you. Its very interesitng that we all seem to be in our 50's (i'm 51 this year) i wonder if this has something to do with hormone levels etc.  Good luck with finding a succesful treatment. Pauline

Hi Karen, no my smears have been ok. I think it may be linked to hormone changes as most sufferers seem to be women in their 40's and 50's. Just one more thing we have to cope with! Hopefully one day they will discover what the cause is and develope a cure x

    Hi Janice,

For esophageal I have taken Cellcept, Methotrexate, a Budesonide (and Splenda) slurry and finally a 4 week course of I.V. Rituximab. The Rituximab has been the most successful and had the least amount of side effects. For oral I have taken Lidex, magic mouthwash and nystatin.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Mary.
