    Hi lorraine72329,

Yes I too suffer with it in the anal area. UGH...

I have to be extremely careful or I wind up with fissures and tears.

I also have IBS so I take a good probiotic every day and I also use Preparation-H. I also keep a spray bottle of borax solution handy and use it frequently after bathroom visits. I have found the borax baths to be very soothing. I try to soak for at least 10 minutes - 20 minutes is better if you have the time. Make sure you get plenty of fiber in your diet to keep your stool soft. Coconut oil is great as a moisturizer. I also use aloe vera juice topically to sooth and promote healing.

For the last month I have been drinking aloe vera juice to see if I find it to be benefical, too soon to make a judgement call on it yet. One other solution that I make and keep in a spray bottle is hydrogen proxide and saline. I have an 8oz spray bottle and I mix 4oz peroxide, 4oz of saline. That recipe works just fine for me however I started out with 3oz peroxide to 4oz saline. Experiment and see what works best for you. Good luck and God bless...

      Good morning Jen,

Thank you for taking the time to write back to me,

When your anal is very raw and painful do you place the coconut oil

      In chunks ?

Also do you spray the solution straight on to the area

Or do you use cotton wool,

Sorry, I'm new at all this.

How do you use the preparation h?

      God bless you to..

If you are extremely raw and painful I would advise you cleanse yourself first with the saturated borax solution or the hydrogen peroxide/saline. I prefer my spray bottle when I am having a sever flare up and yes spray it directly on the affected area. I don't like the idea of using a cotton ball because everything that touches the area is painful. After you cleanse yourself the Prepartion-H can be applied internally as well as externally. If you are only having external issues open the tube get enough to coat the affected area on a cotton ball or your finger and apply a nice thick coat.

If you have a fissure or tear which is what happens to me then use the applicator, squeeze the tube until you see the lubricant coming out of all the little holes then gently insert and squeeze until you have caoted both inside and outside. I always do this at bedtime, leaving it over night gives it time to coat, protect and heal. You can also reapply in the mornings. If you have not read the forum on "An Experiment With Borax" I highly recommend you do. I have found the borax soaks to be very healing.

As far as the coconut oil goes if I choose to use it I melt it in my hands so it's not in hard chunks. Softer is better!

I am sorry you (and many more ladies) are suffering this way  I have had LS for a long time, years before I had any idea that I had it.  I learned a lot on this forum, and I did almost everything that was suggested here.  The things that helped me the most:  After every bathroom visit, spray with very warm water mixed with a few pinches of  baking soda.

I started putting a few tablespoon of organic coconut oil in a small jar and adding 8 or 10 drops of pure theraputic grade Frankincense essential oil.

I use that coconut/ F. mix every single time I use the bathroom, spread it over the entire bottom area, front to back

Through the night, if I have to go to the bathroom, I use pure emu oil instead of the coconut oil.  (emu oil is also a mild pain reliever)

I no longer use the Triancinolone (a milder Clobetasol substitute, prescribed by my LS specialist)....unless I feel the slightest itch, then I use an almost invisible dab and that is enough to stop the symptoms.

I have had no active LS now for the past 2 yrs, and I have every 6-mo check up with the dr.

Even with no symptoms, the LS is always on my mind!  I know it can flare up if it feels like it!

Do some research on the Frank. ess. oil, even on this forum...others have used it and it is fantastic.

And the emu oil is very calming and soothing for all the tissues front to back.

    Hello again Lorraine

Sorry I didn't check back sooner, but hope the advice others have given is proving helpful to you.  I buy psyllium fibre at a whole foods store.  It is the main ingredient in Metamucil also, but that contains artificial flavour and sweeteners which I don't want.  So I just buy the plain fibre.  If you have a whole food or health food store near you should find it there.  The borax I find at Giant Tiger here, but most grocery stores carry it under the brand name 20 Mule Team Borax and it is actually best known as a laundry additive to soften and sweeten clothing.  It's chemical name is Sodium Tetraborate.  Coconut oil, I keep in an empty plastic clean face cream jar right beside the toilet and I spead on a dab after wiping every time I use the toilet.

So far as the anal soreness and bleeding, the real help seems to be to keep the bowels moving frequently hence all the added dietary fibre.  I also added magnesium citrate supplements from the drug store.  Helps keep things moving frequently hence looser stools.

I sure hope you are feeling better and that you get good medical help.

The anal involvement was so fustrating to me because the doctors I saw never could explain it. Gynechologist said must be hemorroids, had a colonoscopy and the surgeon said no hemorroids, and it was maybe from 'wiping too hard'!!!  Big help!

But I do know that normal sized bowel movements cause splitting and bleeding, and loose movements do not.  Just common sense to me that anal tissue made fragile by the LS has lost its elasticity.  Everything I do to lessen the LS symptoms improves the anal symptoms at the the same time.

    Lorraine,

I use Elide for my LS. It is prescribed by a dermatologist, and is an off label use for this condition. It works as an immuno modulator in your skin cells. LS is like your body's not recognizing itself, and is attacking itself causing the LS. You're treating just the symptoms such as itching with your steroid creams and ointments. You want to heal those tears fissures. I have had a lot of luck using Slidell to decrease the size of any fissures. I tried the medium and strong steroids in the past, but they thin your skin. If you're tearing talk to your doctor about adding Elidel to your treatment. It doesn't thin your skin and promotes the healing. Good luck.
