Lichen sclerosis and suddenly burning clob after four week treatment

Hi all. I have what I think is a typical LS story, a very mild case initially that was mistaken for dermatitis for a few years. It accelerated with long covid and then I finally got the distinctive white patches and some labial shrinking after getting the second covid vaccine which secured the diagnosis. (FYI, I'm in my 30s, no kids.)

My question is about the initial three month clobetasol treatment. I got immediate relief from the itching and things were starting to look better after a few weeks of daily application. Dr said it was looking good, too. Then right towards the end of that month, I put the clobetasol on and for some reason it burned like crazy. The skin was left red and raw again, shiny and painful, the whole thing feeling like a chemical burn almost. I have no idea why this happened then, when the clob had been fine throughout before. Maybe I used slightly too much that day without realising? Maybe my skin had simply taken as much daily application of a strong steroid as it could bear?

Anyway, has anyone else had this experience? I'm meant to be tapering down now to every other day, and I'm going to be applying again tomorrow. Is it a bad idea to apply to this raw skin?

    Hi!

I'm a male, 27 years old, it's since two years that I have dry skin (not too much) on penis glans, and I'm so afraid of lichen sclerosus, cause I think I have it. 8 Doctors said that I dont have it, but my skin won't rehydrated. which where your initial symptoms? They say mine is just trauma balanitis, but I'm not sure.

Hi Julie, replying in case my info helps you. I saw the GP and she said that the clobetasol had cleared up the white patches on my skin and it looked largely healthy after four weeks, and that it was now proving too strong for healthier skin as a result. She switched me to mometasone. Might be worth asking your doc about changing steroids.
