Lichen Sclerosis - Dealing with it at A Young Age, Getting rid of White Patches.

Hey Everyone Ive finally found the courage to talk about my issues with LS. I want to start off by saying I am 19 years old and have been dealing with this disease since i was like 10! crazy right?! The worst part is I Kept it hidden for so long because I didnt know how to bring it up to my parents i was so shy and insecure about what was going on i decided to keep quiet and suffer the pain alone. Fast forward to current times and I am doing much better, since puberty I rarely feel itchy on my vagina anymore and no flareups. I do have insulin resistance issues which mess with my harmones ... i dont know if that has anything to do with me having this disease at such a young age. ANYWAYS, I am very sexually active and I experience no pain unless the sex is vigorous of course. What I am still self Conscious about though is my white patches... is there a way to get rid of them ?! they make me feel so self conscious even though my boyfriend doesnt comment on it at all. And if you guys were wondering I havent seen a doctor about this issue yet..I've been to a gynecologist and got checked up but she didnt seem to notice that I have lichen sclerosis and I didnt bring it up. I still feel uncomfortable telling my parents whats going on. In addition to this I also have a urethra caruncle, another uncommon thing for a woman my age as well; my gynecologist didnt comment on this either during my examination, i can urinate fine and it doesnt seem to bother me as much, but its just weird and sometimes bothers me during sex. I Apologize again for the length of this but I just wanted to get everything off my chest. To those who made it to the end of this post, Thanks for listening !!!! (SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ADVICE ON HOW TO GET RID OF WHITE PATCHES)

You mentioned that you haven't seen a doctor, but did you get a diagnosis of LS from a doctor?
I don't know if treatment will make your spots go away but it can stop them from spreading or getting bigger.

Then you have to go back to your doctor or gynecologist for treatment or it will progress...

im not affected by it as I used to be but i do go to the gyno regularly so Im thinkinng about bringing it up. The symptoms were worse before i hit puberty... now there is no pain or progression at all.. but your right about going to the doctor about this because i wouldnt want it to progress when I get older

Definitely do that! There are a lot of stories about women who didn't get a diagnosis in time and even stories about women who were diagnosed but didn't follow the treatment plan and they ended up really regretting it.

I'm not understanding how you saw a gynecologist who didn't notice that you have white patches or a urethral caruncle. You may not feel comfortable talking to your parents about it, but there's no reason why you shouldn't talk to your doctor about your concerns. Have you been only once? You definitely want to discuss this with the gyn.

cece, the more informed you are the less nervous you will be. Be sure to talk with your doctor about what you are sure was LS when you were younger and what you say you are sure are remaining white patches. How is it you know you have a caruncle? Who diagnosed that? Once it's established what you have be sure to see a gyn, not just a GP, for regular check-ups.
You are fortunate in that you are able to have sex without a problem. Other young women have posted who are very insecure about being able to ever have sex. You are doing well!

Ive also had this condition from a very young age. Im not sure if you can do anything about the white patches. Are they caused from the skin just turning white or from scar tissue? Either way you cant do much. I know people effected by Vitiligo sometimes use steroid cream to try and improve the appearance of the skin. But as for scar tissue, it really never goes away.
