Lichen sclerosis, West Midlands UK, recommendation 😃

Evening everybody,

I have unfortunately been diagnosed with LS 8 weeks ago. I can not express how wonderful and sympathetic the staff have been at both Solihull and Birmingham city center sexual heath centres called UMBRELLA ?. So if you are having any problems or know anybody that has the symptoms then I highly recommend going to these clinics.

I first of all went to Solihull and was told to use aqueous cream to wash with, till I saw a specialist. I went today to Birmingham city centre, Wittal street to see the doctor for a biopsy. In fact I actually saw two doctors and they decided I didn’t need a biopsy as it was very obvious that I had it. The doctors didn’t rush me, I got a little emotional and they were very sympathetic. They explained all about LS and the care they were going to provid for me.

I was given the following free:

Dermovate - clobestasol 30g to use at night.

Dermol lotion 500g to wash with

Doublebase gel 100g to apply as many times I like in the day to sooth soreness

all repeat prescriptions will then go through my local doctor, for me they will be free as I have an under active thyroid 😔

I have to go back in 3 months to see if itching and soreness has improved. Then I will attend clinic once a year for the rest of life for cancer screening of the vulva. If symptoms gets worse or others things appear like lumps or alcers then I contact any time and they will fit me in.

I hope this this might be useful for any sufferers in this area.

I'm glad you found great specialists and sympathetic people...I wish we had place easier to find like that in the U.S.

Thank you, a lot of people moan about are free NHS (National Health Service) but I think it’s great and my mum totally agrees with me. Yes sometimes we have to wait a bit longer for appointments than the private sector, but my NHS contributions over the years is far less than private. Plus all medical and dental are free to children under 18 and that included free braces for both of my children .

How frustrating for you, LS is funny old thing. Through reading the forums on this website, where most people are struggling to get support. That is why I posted mine as I have had the opposite and have had fantastic support. I have stopped eating all yeast and the itching has dramatically reduced, maybe try that, also pop to your local sexual health clinic ( if you are in the uk) and get a second opion.

      good luck :-)

You should soon be free from any itching which is a blessing in itself.  It is lovely to be able to get to sleep without any discomfort.
