Lichen sclerosus help I'm scared

Posted , 5 users are following.

A few months ago I found out that I had some small shinny patches around my vulva. It would only itch wen the area is moist. So I started keeping the area extremely dry n the itching went away... So I felt everything was ok. Then a few days ago I felt the itching again and to my surprise the patches got bigger the area is really thin n after sexual intercourse I'd have small cracks around the area. So I'm convince I have lichen scleroses based on my research I'm really scared n don't wat to do. Any suggestions?

    Hello

Sorry Lidia you have this problem.  I suggest you go first to your GP and make sure he/she takes you seriously.  Ask to see a Dermatologist.  You probably need  a biopsy.  If it is LS, then you will be given a steroid cream to  help control the symptoms.  Please do not leave this.  It is controllable and with treatment hopefully you will be fine.  It is vey scary at first; everyone on this forum has the problem.  You have to find ways of trying to manage it.  Sugar seems to be a contributor; so consider reducing this.  I really wish you the best of luck.  Best wishes. Hi Lidia

I forgot to mention that stress makes the condition worse, and I know how stressful it is.  You have to try and keep calm.  Also do not use soap there.  Get some aqueous cream from chemist,  but ask your GP for some lotion to wash with.  I don't think they allow you to mention names of medicine here.  I am going through hell myself at moment, and I keep getting terrible outbursts of this.  Hopefully your problem will be minor and you will get it under control. Regards. Jan

I would say also even if the symptoms seem right, don't presume it's LS there are other possibilities. I was diagnosed with LS a few months ago, but then my gyno wasn't sure, I saw someone else who was convinced I didn't have LS and they are both more settled on thinking its eczema now. I hope they are right and this is a relief, but at the end of the day the treatment is fairly similar just maybe with more emphasis on emollients.

    Hi Lidia

I know it's very scary, but you have to get it checked out and a proper diagnosis then you can move forward with a plan. I have found that cutting out sugar and dairy and gluten is v helpful and applying emu oil, available from Amazon.

    Hope that helps
