Life after gallbladder removal....

Hi,

I had my gallbladder removed 7 weeks ago, due to my gallbladder not working correctly. Although the op was laparscopic I was in so much pain I had to have an epidural. Anyway ever since the op I have been in pain, felt really sick and cannot eat!. I get excruciating pain up to an hour after food. Also if I lie down in the same position for too long and stand up that brings on the pain too. I have also found that I keep getting a bile taste in my mouth, excessive sweating and fatigue. I also generally feel 'under the weather' at least once a day if not more! After several visits to the hospital and clear test results they think I have SOD - a problem with the bile duct which may require a stent. Has anyone else had these problems after gallbladder removal and had a successful outcome? My life is a complete mess and I cant do anything apart from take pills, sleep and eat creamy food .. everything else hurts!

My daughter has gall bladder dysfunction/biliary dyskinesia. She is always sick and has stomach aches and nauseas all of the time. They want to remove her Gallbladder. Nothing works as far as food restriction or reflux medicines. She has also lost 20 pounds in 6 months! She is 11 years old, any help will be appreciated.

Hi, I had started getting indigestion in 7th grade and it got worse year after year and beginning 2013 at 20 it took the plunge and was completely replaced by abdominal pain. I thought it was just horrible bloating caused by indigestion and got it every 3 or 4 days then sooner and sooner so by the middle of 2014 it was happening nearly everyday no mater what I ate even after changing to an extremely low fat/grease/oil diet not long after it first started, still believing it was indigestion. I finally went to the doctor in November they did an ultra sound saying it might be gallstones and they would get back to me with the results. Didn't bother to give me the results till January 2015 and because of the hospitals around here couldn't even make an appointment till I could pay the hospital fee to have the surgery Done. Thankfully I had my surgery in august went with the robotics, big mistake 4 incisions instead of 3, bigger then the traditional and jagged, one is almost 2 inches long and Starts almost at the inside of my navel and they didn't tell me till after that it's supposed to hurt worse too. The only up side is that it is more precise for your delicate insides which is why I chose it so don't let it scare you if it helps you to feel better knowing your inside are slightly better taken care of I was just kind of miffed about all the things they didn't tell me thinking that my scars would look more like my mom's only three small straight incisions. I am happy to say though that I can eat now my diet has changed except for a health sizing from nothing to a normal helping and some non regretful splurging and a smidgen regretable now and again without the running consequences after, ever thank goodness and a normal steady weight loss as I gained a lot due to my body hording everything I was able to eat before it. My only actually side effect is a little indigestion very seldom now from only a few no where near good for me meals and a few stressful occasions. Take it from me an every one else every situation is different because every person is different if you think you may be having this issue or you know for sure you do just make sure your ready. Hope for the best and do whatever it take for you to feel comfortable with the decision being made. I kind of wish someone had told me all this before hand but I don't regret it and I hope this can help someone somewhere.

Hi all. I just wanted to add that I have just had my gallbladder removed 6 days ago. I wanted to share my experience so that people can have a view on what is best.

I was diagnosed with gallstones around 3 years ago when they were actually looking for kidney stones ! I wasn't really having issues so it was left. I did have occasional attacks that kept me awake during the night and unable to get comfy etc.

Around 6 months ago , I started getting HORIFFIC attacks , so bad that I was rushed into A&E and put on Morphine via IV. It was happening on a weekly basis and the attacks were not even linked to what I'd eaten as I was surviving on next to no food.

When they operated last Friday , they said my gallbladder was so bad that it burst and bile spilled out which needed aspirating. I was in surgery for 3 hours instead of the usual 1 hour tops. I stayed for 2 nights in hospital as I was very sore and in pain.

I am home now recovering and yes I have all the aches and pains as would be expected from any big operation , I can tell my body is adjusting to being without my gb but all I can say to people who are worried or unsure about having their GB removed is I could seriously not carry on living like that with those horrid attacks . I used to say to my bf that I would kill myself , I begged the nurses in A&E to knock me out or give me overdose . My liver function from blood tests came back poor and I have enlarged spleen.. All this from a very poorly GB. So I can definitely say I am relieved it's all over with.

Im 2 days post op after waiting 9 months on the waiting list an although my belly is bloated.

      I feel great!

I lived on plain ham sandwiches for nearly a year an anything would set of the dreaded attack.

I didnt dare eat through anxiety of pain. Avoided meals, parties, birthday nights out.

So far ive eaten a wispa, choc orange, apple rice pud. Fish an chips. God they taste good!!

Everyone is different and it tends to be alot of negative outcomes on the net.

Have the op done with a experienced surgeon. Youll be so chuffed afterwards.

      Xx

I'm having my stomach scan on Friday because they think I may need to have my gallbladder removed. I'm very worried about it though because the more research that I do it seems everyone seems to be having horrible side effects. Has anyone had problems with putting on weight or loosing it since they've had it removed?

I had my gallbladder removed 6 days ago and so far I have no side effects.  I seem to be able to eat anything. Just finished a bowl of ice cream.  I would definitely keep bugging the doctors to see what else might be going on with you.  Keep going back until you get answers.

Hello Kaylesc I totally agree, I had my surgery 10 hours ago and the initial onset of pain of feeling like death has now subsided. I just now have the pain of the actual surgery where the incisions are I can deal with it .

After discussing the surgery with the doctor I found that the gallbladder was gangrenous and infected and full of gallstones. Surgery was definitely needed and that would have not been known it was that serious unless I had the surgery, so I am thankful .
