Light at the end of the tunnel..

Hey all you lovely people,

How are you all getting on?

Me? Well I finally feel like I'm beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. And it feels great to say that.

I have just been officially discharged from physio. Such a milestone.

I am able to walk about a mile or mile and a half in a straight walk if that makes sense, and just the other day was out shopping with a friend and walked 2 1/2 miles. Wow!! Was super happy with that.

Hip is definitely feeling stronger every day i think. I'm still having bother with my knees and quad on my left side where i had op. When I'm walking for a bit, my thigh gets really tight and stiff and heavy and then it's just a mission to get home.

Do any of you feel like that at all?

And also, it's been about 16 weeks since my op and under my scar area is all completely still numb? Is this normal?

Hope to speak to you all soon,

Natalie X

Well done on your recovery you seem to be doin f really well. Can I ask - at how many weeks were you able to walk without the dreaded penguin waddle. I'm 7 weeks post surgery and still waddle like a penguin. I'm doing my glute exercises daily but still unable to stand on one leg yet. Like you when I walk too much it gets very stiff and heavy - like I've had a work out at the gym but no pain. I also think the numbness is normal - one side around my scar is totally numb and also about half way down the side of my thigh near scar. I really hope the sensation does return

    Hi Natalie

I'm glad you are feeling great.  It's been 5 months since my op and I'm still having problems with my left foot. The hospital told me it was plantar fasciitis but I've been to a private physio who disagrees and is letting my doctor know, he thinks it's a nerve problem.

I had a setback Monday when my groin went into a muscle spasm. Yesterday I managed to attend an appointment with the podiatry who agreed with the nerve problem. My left leg is 1cm shorter than the right leg and they are measuring me for some insoles.

I walk round the shops but have to keep resting. I never record how far I have walked but I don't think it's 21/2 miles. I bet you are really pleased with yourself. I am a rambler and can't wait to get going again.

Good luck with your progress and hope to hear from you soon.

    Hey Natalie

Glad to hear you are doing so good are you back at work yet?

I am still off and still in a substancial amount of pain from my back and now and again my hips having both done it been harder but l am recovering but slower than l would like. I was walking everyday for a bit maybe doing 2 miles but after it l was in a lot of pain in my knees l was getting really down so l went l have OA in both knee's so l am not really getting anywhere. I can't walk as it's to sore on my knees and my ankles swell up so l have given up the walking for the moment. I go to hosoital next wednesday to see knee specialist. It just seems never ending to get back to normal.i din't know what normal is anymore as its been 4 mþ l am thankful am l not housebound. I can drive and walk short distances round supermarkets and my hips are a lot better just my knee's. Hopefully l will be normal again ardď

    Hi Natalie,

I am 5 1/2 months out since TRHR and my knee and quad on that side have been hurting when I walk...thus limping. I think my muscles are still needing strengthening so going back to basic exercises. It is easy to slack off when feeling better but the pain is a reminder to keep on with the exercises but don't overdo. My surgeon says it takes 6 months to a year to really heal..Maybe longer. My scar feels okay..had posterior op.

    Hang in there!

    Hi Natalie,

I was told yesterday that the numbness under the scar may never go away due to the nerves being totally severed when they do the incision.

    Best wishes Ali x

Lovely to hear that you are nearing the end of the tunnel. I had my surgery 2 weeks earlier and, from where I sit doing very well. I am on about the same place though soetimes get quite tired and achey after a busy/active day (similar to your description) and going down stairs without a rail on the correct side remains tough.

However it is a stressful time for other reasons, so maybe that is contributing.

Very nice to see your post. Wishing you all the best.

    hi natalie,

well done .... goodness, how time flies ...

sounds like you are doing great ... I think that stiffness and muscle aches etc. will be with me for a bit longer , even now , so many moons post-op -

Have not yet recovered my stamina and tire easily -

Both scars feel numb underneath - sometimes they make themselves known and I feel a jab - I have a very old scar (60 years) on the side of my knee (child hood wound) and it is still numb - weird feeling - or better said, no feeling

    Big warm hug

A visit to my doctor this week and she suggested taking vitamin B12 to increase my energy.

Sending you some hugs to keep your supply up. You are such a generous person.

Waves of hugs and .. as you might say 😊healing light.
