Light-headed, dizzy & spaced out for 2 years, can anyone help?

Hi there,

I'm hoping / praying someone can shed some light on my extremely frustrating & somewhat debilitating symtoms. Aprox two years ago I started to feel a little light headed, I was working in retail at the time and the shop was incredibly busy (I have always worked in sales, so this did not phase me, what did cause me concern was how light headed I had been feeling) At the time, I presumed it was just a side effect from citalopram - something I had been prescribed six months earlier for feeling a little low. I did think it was strange that I felt woozy and light headed six months into the course as I had only previously experienced this feeling at the very beginning. I mentioned it to my doc and they agreed if i felt ready i should taper off citalopram - so i did. Slowly but surely i reduced my dose and presumed the light headed, dizzy almost drunk feeling would disappear - much to my surprise, i am still in the same state - blurred vision, wobbly, floaty and very very dizzy.

I have been to see my GP numerous times - my iron & bloody sugar levels, thyroid have been tested. They even sent me for an MRI scan and it all came back clear. My blood pressure is a little low but nothing too alarming and the ENT doctor said they couldn't find any inner ear problems (which I kind of thought would be the case because it's not a spinning sensation that you might expect from say labyrinthitis, it's more of a constant faint feeling)

It is a nightmare crossing the road or entering a busy supermarket. I am no longer quick on my feet and my memory is very poor too. I feel dazed and confused a lot of the time and extremely tired.

I'm only 31 and have a real love for life - can anyone suggest what could possibly be happening to me? I would be incredibly grateful as this god awful 'whatever it is' is really taking it's toll on my work, my relationship with my partner, friends and family (more so because there is no diagnosis as yet so I feel like people don't really understand what is actually wrong with me) every day I pray that this has just been a nightmare and I will wake up and feel normal again.

Look forward to your feedback...

I think you have Lyme disease. I got a message like this and it saved my life. I don't have the timeto explain and reply to every single person affected. Research Lyme disease and brain fog. I hope it helps and wish you the best

Hi Dizzy! I have been having almost the same problems. It started 2 month back as a rocking feeling along with lightheadedness, extreme fatigue, eye heaviness, blurred vision and bad neck pain. Reading, writing is becoming a problem for me..anything that involves gazing or bending the head down like cooking etc brings on more dizziness. I am 34 years old, mother of a toddler and thus expected to be on my toes all day. I was working before I had my son i.e. 2 and half years ago and had this on and off neck pain since 7-8 years. Mine was a desk job on computers, accompanied by bad posture, so that explains the pain in the neck. All of my symptoms subside when I lie down or rest my head somewhere though and come right back when I get up. I can understand what you and others on this forum are going through. I went to a homeopathic doctor after 1 week of suffering from these symptoms. Unlike allopathy, homeopathy treats the main cause of disease through symptoms i.e. It treats the symptoms first and then the disease causing these symptoms. (This is what I have been told) My homeopath suspects it's cervical dizziness. He says even if it's something else medicines are right and would be working on the root cause but it will take some time to resolve my issues completely and would also prevent relapses later. He also instructed me on keeping my ears right over my shoulders and exercising my neck muscles. I am just going by what hez saying right now though I am extremely keen on getting a proper diagnosis.

The purpose of my writing this post is to let you all know that dizziness to a certain extent can be handled by homeopathy without any side effects. It can make your days more manageable, like it has made mine (my brain fog has almost gone, lightheadedness has reduced by 50-60 percent, blurred vision is more or less taken care of) till the time you have proper diagnosis. I will be going to a neuro otologist this weekend to see what exactly is going on and praying hez actually able to tell me what it is.

I wish all of u good luck!

Hi Sandhya, I have this issue exactly as you have described from past 3 years. Life has been miserable since then. My neck and shoulder hurt as well. But the neck pain developed after 6 months of feeling dizzy. Had mri of spine, head done. According the doctors it's case of stressed nerve. Have tried physio, acupuncture and oestopathy. Oestopathy helped me a little but not completely. My scalp hurts as well.

Wanted to know where are you located and whom do you consult for homeopathy? How better do you feel? What are the neck exercises do you do?

      Hi Sangmanu,

Sorry you been suffering too..... out of interest what did they tell you to do about it after they told you it was a stressed nerve? Did they tell you it would heal over time or that it was permanent or what? Just interested becasue it feels like a weak nerve in my head is going off constantly causing dizziness.

Hi Crest, according to them there is no permanent solution. Exercises and therapy can keep dizziness under control. I wish I can feel better atleast couple of hours in a day.

Hi, well my symtoms are the same and i was given the diagnosis of two consultants in london of MAV, and you dont even have to have the headaches. ive had this twice before and its gone away....jsut not for this long. (15months) look into perhaps mav and the meds that can be used for that, or of course homeopathy too. the exercises i did for months and did nothing for me but a lot of people get relief from continuing them.

Yes Crest, migraine is quite possible. I don't trust my diagnosis as there is no proof. It's just so hypothetical. I started getting headaches after 2 years of dizziness and according to Dr that's migraine. I am not sure that is the actual cause. If dizziness and headache related .. no idea.

I started getting headaches a few months ago.....and i went straight to my kenisialoist and he said my seratonin was too high! and a side effect of that is headaches, so i too kthe B5 drops he gave me and the daily headache dissappeared in 3 days and has not returned. So...what im trying to say is, is that with this dizziness so many things can go out of whack, your immune system, supplements your body needs get so depleted and so on. so perhaps your headaches are to do wiht that and not the dizziness itself if that makes sense.

I have read through all the symptoms on this blog  I have had all these sensations for almost 3 years.  I am hoping this may help you,  I had most of the tests mentioned.  I feel like blood flow is not going into my head,  I had carotid ultrasounds 14 months ago that were 40, or a least ubder 50 percent blockage.  Went to emergency room a couple of months ago because my dizziness was just a little different.  They did a CTA and at first said I had an 80 percent blockage in right carotid artery.

I cannot believe it could go from 40 to 80 in 14 months.  They did an ultrasound that showed blockage was under 70.  Doctors do not say this is cause of my constant dizziness, etc.  I am writing this to tell everyone to please have your carotid arteries checked.  I have gone to some of the best ENT and cardiologists and neurologist and vesybular therapy and more in a big city and no one made a big deal of my carotid until now when it is so blocked. If this helps any one of you I will be so happy I started this thread.

If sounds to me as if your symptoms are related to perimenopause symptoms. I say this because your symptoms sound very similar to what many of us are experiencing while entering that stage in life. I know you may think it's early but some women start that phase early. You sound as if you're one of them. Join us in Menopause and you will see that your symptoms will be related to much of what many of us experience. Good luck.
