Light headedness

Hi, I have only recently been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and it is unconfirmed at present.

My Rheumatologist is going by my symptoms alone, after an MRI (for vertigo) & biopsy on my temporal artery were negative for inflammation, and  my previous diagnosis of GCA was dismissed.

I am weaning myself off prednisolone, and am not taking any other medication, apart from the occasional painkiller.

Apart from pain and fatigue, which seem typical of Fibro, I am suffering with dizzy spells. They occur when I stand up after sitting for a while, or if I move too quickly. They are quite frightening and I have to steady myself against something, as I feel as if I could collapse.

The Rheumatologist told me this was linked to Fibro, but I haven’t seen it listed in typical symptoms anywhere - does anyone else out there suffer from these, or know if they are typical of Fibro?

i have never heard that. fibromyalgia literally means pain. unexplained pains. dizziness is either your blood pressure is so low that your not getting enough blood to your brain, or your blood does not have enough oxegen, like if you smoke a fag, or else your inner ear is having an issue. you can get serious dizziness from an ear infection. i have been having this because iconsider myself to have an infection of some kind in my ear. my doctors however say i am dfine although they have done zero tests beyond looking in my ear. but from reading online you can have chronic inner ear infections fingal and otherwise so i think i have something like that going on. but since nobody seems to give a rats ass i have to somehow treat this myself without making it worse. which is not the fun adventure it sounds like. anyway. i ;put some fungal foot cream around my ear last night and was like a drunk! could barely get upstairs. to my thinking thats the infection going mental cos it doesnt like the cream but it coudl also bet hat foot cream shouldnt be put near your ears. but i have to try something. i may kill myself but at least i am trying. which over five years is more than any doctor ive seen will do. sorry i am so angry.

i have also had dizzy spells due to low blood pressure and anemia. when you dont have enough iron in your blood it is the iron that carries the oxegen you can get quite dizzy. i also had pretty low blood pressure during pregnancy and always have very low anyway, but that also makes you dizzy because the blood has not enough pressure to force itself upwards against gravity to yoru head and so your brain is deprived of the oxegen your blood is trying to give it. you need to get a blood pressure test and an iron test and if its not those get them to check your inner ear, if they believe in such an organ. i had my doctor tell me there is no such thing as an inner ear.

if you feel dizzy drink some water and lie down with your feet raise above your heart this will help the blood flow towards your brain and heart, after all if theres not enough oxegen for the whole body better give it to teh brain that the feet.

you also need to get enough salt. its the most needed nutrient, and water alone will not hydrate you if you have zero salt, most people get enough salt, but i was eating really healthy food at one time well vegatarian food, and so i had very little salt, and not enough iron, thats what made me dizzy, the salt raises your blood pressure and that is why its considcered bad as most have high blood pressure and eat a lot of salt but i didnt get enough. so salt and iron sorted me out in that regard. hope that helps. i cant think of any pain related reason that would make you dizzy enless you are experiencing such severe pain that its actually disorientating. but the only reason to be dizzy is lack of oxegen to your brain or an inner ear problem that messes with your brains sense of balance. and you can tell the difference, if you feel drunk and like you cant judge which way is up properly thats your inner ear, {or brain that deals with blanace processes} and if you feel like heavy watery feeling you want to slump down to teh ground or your eyes go black thats your oxegen to the brain bussiness. at least for me that  was the difference. ears was more a spinning, and lack of ogengen was more of a hang on i  need to sit down. i once had it bad in a hot shower it actually was like those movies where the strangled guitar makes bizzare noises. it was so horrible and scary. time slowed down. dont take doctors first answer if you do not feel right get them to lsiten if you can. i have given up completely. but thats not normal and even if it is a symptom of fibromyalgia that doesnt mean you should just go home and be dizzy!!!

Wow, you’re dealing with a lot of things!!

I have high blood pressure, which is treated with medication, but I understand what you are saying.

I am going to speak to my GP tomorrow, so I’m hoping he will be able to advise me., as I’m not seeing the Rheumatologist again until the end of January.

Thanks for your reply - I hope you get some help with your problem soon.
