Like 2 other posts here - constant arousal, adrenaline rush, zap, jerks, sound when falling sleep

Posting my account here, just like other 2 posts, its a constant thing that only happens when you are falling asleep then thr sensation wakes you back up. in my case it can be like brain zap or twitch or jerk or a sound like even my own head shifting on the pillow, i hear that and wakes me.

this is constant, day night naps or night, started with naps only then suddenly at night.

before i took lorezapam, id maybe get either no sleep or like fragments of few hours a night, hours of constant adrenaline rush, like my brain wants me to stay up.

been on meds for a month, can sleep ok, not great because low dosage but not sure why it works. its not like im unable to sleep, i can fall asleep within mins anywhere, anytime but get jerk up.

like other 2 posts im going for more tests like MRI etc. could this be some sort of epilepsy during sleep and thats why meds help? Gaba receptors quiet seizures down?

And yes like others i was scared was gonna die soon until i found these 2 threads.

Hi there. I have been exactly where you are. Mine started back in 2011. It was mainly my neck, shoulders & arms that would jerk or twitch just as i was on the verge of falling asleep. I would get about 90 minutes of sleep if at all & i had a fulltime job at the time. I had sleep tests done, saw a neurologist & test after test but nothing pathological was ever found. It ended up costing me my home & my job (i resigned) cos i could barely function on a daily basis let alone hold down a job. In the end i was put on a medication called rivotril which is an anti epileptic drug but i do not have epilepsy. It treats other conditions as well. For me this med literally gave me my life back & i still take it to this day. You wont die from lack of sleep. You will obviously feel awful but you wont die. I'm living proof of that. Mine went for over a year. Mine was put down to myoclonic jerks. At one point it was so bad i contemplated taking my own life but i clawed my way back. Keep going with your doctors but often with this problem it is rare anything is ever found. Good luck.

thanks, im getting sleep now only with the pills, maybe I need to suggest the epilepsy meds to docs. shouldn't they know this from doing functional MRI while you try to sleep? and know something.

how were you put on that med anyways? what diagnosis test or doctor suggested its works?

No doctor suggested this med it was just trial & error cos they didn't have an actual cause. I was just put on them & hoped for a miracle & i got it. I'm not a doctor but it's highly unlikely it will be epilepsy. Sometimes they just happen & can be aggravated by sleep deprivation, stress & anxiety. I went severely sleep deprived for well over a year before i was put on this drug. Depending on your doctor, it's not always an easy drug to get cos it's a benzo but if you have good reason for needing it, it shouldn't be a problem. Could be worth a try but remember everybody is different with medication. I do know that benzos are the med of choice to treat this problem. Ok, people might say, not ideal but whatever works. I haven't had any adverse reactions to it.
