Limited relief from surgery; Feeling discouraged

Posted , 2 users are following.

I went for my follow up after my surgery which was on July 30th and found out I have stage 4 endometriosis and that the surgery would not bring as much relief as I would have like and any relief I do feel will only last about 6 months. Not only am I very disappointed that I am still in pain I am worried about what this means for the future. Feeling like your insides are on fire and missing work is the worst and knowing that is what I am going to be facing again soon just sucks. I don't know if I will ever feel better or if anything, besides having everything removed, is going to help. I am only 27 and I don't know if I will be able to have kids. It is all so much to take in.

Hi. Have you been offered hormone suppressant injections. They have same effect as having ovaries removed but can be reversed when time comes if you want to try for kids. I don't know how long you can take them as I'm afraid they didn't suit me so only had one as made me have major migraines but they do work for some. You do get menopause symptoms with them too I'm afraid. I opted to take everything out in the end but even that isn't a walk in the park and at your age I guess they will be looking at others options first. The mirena coil meant to help as well? Naturally cutting out wheat and dairy us supposed to help too. I wish you all the best and hope you find something that helps.

Ps. I've had kids so it's definitely not out of the question with endo

Hi. Thanks for the response. They talked with me about the injections but told me about the symptoms and I am too nervous about that to try that. I am going in to get the Mirena in November but the doctor said that there is no guarantee that it will be helpful but I am willing to try it.  I have tried to change my diet and increase my exercise but there are always those 3-4 days that no matter what I do the pain also comes. I haven't brought up to the doctors yet what they think about my chances when it comes to children but it is good to know that even with endo it may still be possible. I know things could be a lot worse but endo really sucks.

My first op left me with copeable pain for about 7 months so it also depends on how well you can put up with it. I was lucky to live in an area with a specialist endo surgeon who i was referred to. Personally if I'd been younger (I'm 40 now and about 32 when I first started having proper pain but didn't do anything until I was 39 when had investigation op) I'd have tried to put up with it a bit longer and have a few more laps to clear and give some relief before I went in and had hysterectomy. I was actually more scared about having mirena than op!!
