Link between long term use of PPIs and Afib?

Has anyone any experience of atrial fibrilation thought to be caused by PPIs?

Would like to hear from anyone on PPIs for longer than a year, especially on high doses. (I am on 80mg Pantoprazole) and if they are suffering side effects.

Big thank you.

I was once diagnosed with Afib. I also take lansoprazole. I had an embolism and it improved only to resurface later. GERD actually causes presentations of various heart conditions like irregular heart rate and high blood pressure. Doctors on many occasions imagine it is actually a heart disease. It is very difficult to distinguish. Afib is quite capable of presenting in a gerd complex. That is my suspicion in the light of personal experience. I don't know if PPIs could lead to Afib.
