Link between vertigo and Herpes Virus Type 1

I would like to know if anyone who's experiencing vertigo, also suffers from the Herpes Virus?

Years ago when I experienced my first bout with vertigo, I did a lot of reading and came across a research written up about a possible link between the Herpes Virus Simplex 1 and vertigo. Since I always had cold sores throughout my life as long as I can remember back into childhood, it was intriguing for me to find out that this little bugger was now causing my vertigo!

I have since (2007) changed my diet, steam my sinuses and other lifestyle changes I get the virus every October but the vertigo hasn't been able to attack me even though I drink coffee every day- I love coffee and can't quit.

I still would like to know if anyone else has had this experience? Thank you and be well!

    Arax,

I also have the Herpes Virus Simplex 1. But I have not had an out break of Herpes for years. At least not that I can see. And have never noticed Herpes at the same time as my attacks. These last few months I have attacks almost daily. Some worse than others but no Herpes. My triggers seem to be, salt, sugar, possible gluten, stress, banging sounds, and poor sleep.  I don’t drink coffee or alcohol and don’t smoke.

    Anyway, that is my experience.

    Take care

Jim, I meant to say that the Herpes Virus might be the link but the sores don't have to be present. The virus is always with us so any triggers to the virus causes the virus to react. I also don't eat sugars, alcohol, gluten, and I have low salt intake and haven't had any vertigo attacks since 2007. More than two cups of coffee also makes me feel like I am losing my balance so I stay within those limits. Sometimes even the second cup makes me feel that way.

All those triggers you talk about is also mine. I guess we should be thankful we are not living with something worse....

      Be well,

Thanks for the clarification. I understand what you are saying. I am going to do some reading up on the possible links. So many variables. I guess that is why it is a syndrome.

Glad and you are attack free for the last ten years. Stay after it.

      Take good care.

Jim, Please post what ever you find out from your search. I'm sure there are thousands of us who will benefit from it.

I am by no means off the hook with this as you know. As I type I have a breakout of cold sore and I have been feeling a little vertigo-ish right when I get out of bed in the mornings but it never goes into a full attack, which is what I am working to keep away! Thank you and keep us informed...

Try and listen to your triggers and I hope you can get a handle on keeping the vertigo away. Lots of good wishes to you

    Hi Arax

What is your diagnosis for your vertigo?

BPPV, Vestibular Migraine, Vestibular Neuritis or Menieres?

Which one is the link supposed to be with?

Ben, I have been told that I have MD and tinnitus. My vertigo supposedly was BPPV. But this was over ten years ago and the field of MD doesn't seem like has changed much, they only keep adding names and conditions to every situation.

I am not a doctor but the link is between the virus and what ever reaction it causes in the person. With me it is the vertigo but not pinpointing where it's affecting but that it is causing vertigo.

I am not sure if I answered your question....please let me know if I can add anything more
