Linx surgery for acid reflux

Has anyone esperienced this relatively new surgery for acid reflux which doesnt respond to drugs.

Or does anyone know anything about it. It is much es invasive than the nissen fondiplication op. done by day surgery I think. My gastro ent. didnt mention it but I thought I might investiage.just out of interest as a possible future option if all else fails. I am having so much trouble with side effects from

drugs and not much effect on my acid reflux either still getting reflux at night and quite sore throat.

Any comments welcome.

Hi all.this is all relatively new to me! Im in uk, after months of being unwell and being treated for chest infections I never had due to a chronic cough, also dramatic weight loss I was diagnosed with silent reflux (gerd) since then I have been hospitalized twice with asthma attacks which docs are putting down to the gerd causing it. I have bet on omeprazole for a while with no joy, I'm now at the point where I'm so scared to eat as it starts my coughing and quiet often ends in vommiting! Im now down to 7stone I'm so scared to loose any more weight! Im 34 and havve never been ill before, I have 2 small children and this is ruining my life! None of the docs iv seen are taking me seriously at all. I am desperate for a solution to all this, can I ask the uk sufferers on here- how did you go about even getting considered for op? And how long did you have to suffer to get a result of surgery? Thanks so much for any response xx

      Hi Laura

I'm in Devon and I had the linx procedure 2 weeks ago.

It took about a year before I was

      Able to have this operation.

Where are you in the UK ?

Hi live in Peterborough, the health services in my experience in this area are absolutely terrible!

I'm in such a state with all this, I'm even fighting at the moment to get an endoscopy done, I think the docs think I'm exaggerating my symptoms, bit I really cant go on like this for much longer am so miserable, iv had to stop work as a busy hairdresser and my kids have lost their fun, lively energetic mum 😞 I think I have lpr reflux which is different to classic gerd as I get no heartburn is anyone else on here suffering with that?

    Hi all,

I had my LINX three weeks ago and I've had some serious belching and weird sulphury burps. I had it for LPR and the symptoms are exactly the same which is dissapointing! Does anyone have any success stories regarding non-acid reflux and the LINX. When will my symptoms get better?? Is it after the scar tissue has put the LINX more securely in place? Wish you all the best of luck with your recoveries!

      Hi Catherine

I had the Linx procedure done over 2 weeks

I have still got bloating and wind but

I'm hoping this will settle down soon.

I'm able to eat most foods now but

      Every now and again something

      Becomes stuck. Bread is worse.

Can I ask where did u have the Linx

      Procedure.

Have u got a follow up appointment?

Mine was done in Kent and my follow up appointment is on Wednesday. My bloating went after two weeks so don't worry about that! x

Hi Cat, how is it going? Would be good to learn progress. Am having Bravo pH monitoring now in prep for probable Linx.

You said Kent so Mr Boyle at Tunbridge Wells I guess?

      Thanks

      hi Cat44295

I am just curious, did your pre-operation tests show that you did not have acid reflux?  My tests showed no acid and I have sent of a peptest to see if it is pepsin which is causing my throat and ear problems.  I have been wondering if I would be a candidate for linx as I don't have acid reflux.

Hi PizzaMan I'm under Mr Boyle at T.Wells but didn't know he offered Linx - this is good news. Where did you have your op?

Hi Linda,  I had my Linx surgery in October of 2015,  I had a hiatus hernia that was 4cm., which is on the upper side of what is accepted.  Unfortunately to date I am still having reflux. I am however on a lower dose of what I use to take. The worst experience I had post op was a pain in the shoulder blades. It was pretty bad. However, with Gas ex and pain meds I was able to get past it within a week. There also was some disphasia, not unbearable though.  Even though my surgery was not successful, to me it was worth  a try.  I would recommend it. If it works it will change your life for the better.

    Hi all

This is my first time on here, I have been a heartburn sufferer for years but more recently the acid erosion feeling under my voice box has got progressively worse. I have had 4 different types of ppi but the side effects have been awful. My GP has been next to useless I don't really want to go down the surgery route but the Linx system looks a good choice out of what look like a limited range of choices- I'm currently living off gaviscon and rennie but as a result of the reflux I have horrible headaches and constant pain!! I don't want to take meds for the rest of my life- any advice would be greatly appreciated

Before LINX, increase ompeprazol until it works; take it at bedtime to elude side effects.
