I had blood work done due to pain in the upper abdomin that wasn't being relived by meds... The lab results came back all normal except for elevated lipase levels... what would this be??? I have to go get a ct scan but honestly it's freaking me out a little...

Hi Vallery24040,
I'm sorry you were in pain. The elevated lipase levels means your pancreas was inflamed. You had pancreatitis. You mean they didn't explain that to you? Did they keep you in the hospital on IV fluids and with no food or drink allowed? This is usually the standard treatment. You mention that you have to go get a ct scan? They usually have that done in the hospital to figure out why you have pancreatitis, such as gallstones.
I'm sorry I don't have more answers. I just don't think I understand their treatment or lack thereof. Is there any more information you feel comfortable telling us? A ct scan is usually just a normal course they take to get to the cause of it.
Feel better,
Sonya

ive been having this severe pain in my upper abdomin sometimes into my back sometimes not... for some reason the only thing i can drink is coffee anything else even water brings on a episode... i can eat boiled potatoes and crackers thats it... i dont even attempt that until my husband gets home because when i have an episode i cant dtand up straight and i have a 3yr, 15 month, and 3 month old to take care of...Thats another thing this started after the i had my 15 month old and when i got pregnant with my 3 moth old it stopped had him and it started back... Recently ive started vomiting and get sudden diarrhea... I went to the Dr and told them what was going on and she diagnosed me with gastritis gave me some meds and told me to take them for 2 weeks and let them know if they worked... Well they didn't so she had me come in to do blood work and her nurse called the next day and she said everything was normal except for elevated lipase levels... I should be getting a call today about when I get a ct scan... I'm thinking of getting a new Dr... I've lost weight and have zero energy due to not being able to eat.... Thank u for your response...

This is actually ridiculous to me. You're in so much pain and your medical office called to say your lipase levels are elevated, like its nothing. I know that even a few hundred can make a huge difference in pain. At least in my experience. Right now you have no idea or guidance about eating and the pain it can cause. If I were you, and I know it's hard with kids. You need someone to watch them etc.. But if it were me I'd go straight to the ER telling them about the obscene pain you're in. Say you have elevated levels, you're in agony, and you think you have pancreatitis. They will administer fluids, help with pain, and do the needed tests. Again, this is my opinion. and you will get the help you need.
Feel better,
