all over my body started to itch like crazy. Worst if I take a little alchohol. I stopped taking it for about 2 weeks but it still is terrbily itch on my hands, arms legs body and buttocks. I keep on scratching but no relieft. I took some allergy meds (benedryl, claritin, prednisone 20mg) it helped some but not much. What can I do to stop the itch. I took that becasue I have high cholesterol but not too overly high

On bad days my total cholesterol is 144

Triglyceride 223 > I eat a lot after Christmas (I can get like 120-140 sometimes)

HDL  35 > after Christmas (I can get 52-63)

LDL 64 >

Glucose 106

What can I do to make the itch go away. There are no blisters or anything. I am quite active, going to gym about 5 days a week for 2 hrs each. slim profile. 64kg on a 168 height. mid 40s. advise? Thanks

I don't for the life of me understand WHY you are taking a statin of any sort with the figures you have quoted! If you are talking mg/dL, the triglycerides you quote are a bit high yes, but diet is a better way of altering that. Total cholesterol of 144 - desirable is under 200 and recent research has shown that too low a cholesterol level is more dangerous than a slightly too high level. The HDL could be better, but the LDL is also OK.

And anyway - if you are telling the truth about weight, activity and age I think you will find you are at a low risk of heart disease. That is equally as important as the actual cholesterol level. Check that with your doctor, there are algorithms to assess it.

If that glucose reading is a fasting one, that is more of a concern, Fasting blood glucose should be 70-100mg/dL, after a meal up to 125mg/dL is fine. Some people do have slightly raised morning levels but it does need checking out really - IF it was fasting.

You may have to wait a bit longer for the itch to fade but whatever you do, do NOT take lipitor again. It seems it is a common allergic reaction:

"“Three years ago, my doctor prescribed Lipitor. After three months on this drug, I developed a rash all over my body that required a trip to a dermatologist. He took one look at my itchy hide and asked if I was on Lipitor. When I said yes, he said ‘GET OFF!’ My physician switched me to another cholesterol fighter, but the rash is just now starting to go away.”

Allergic skin reactions should never be taken lightly. Some people develop a rash suddenly while other may go weeks or even months on a medication before experiencing problems. Immediate treatment is necessary because sometimes skin complications can be deadly."

I'd recommend seeing a dermatologist just in case.

I'd suggest too that you stop worrying quite so much - you are a typical "worried well".

I cannot do better than echo the excellent advice from Eileen. I am replying from teh UK and have comverted the values you give into SI units which we use here and can confirm everything she says.  I would worry about the triglycerides if you want to worry about something but certainly not the chlesterol.

I have had some expereince with the itching problem and  have found that Pulsitalla is a help.  It is a herbal remedy and is also helpful for clearing catarrh.
