Liquid diet before gallbladder surgery

I'm wanting to know if you were told to follow a liquid diet before gallbladder surgery and if so how many days before? My surgeon has not told me of a diet I need to follow prior to surgery. My surgery is in 5 days. I have my pre op in 2 days maybe they will tell me then.

Hi, I had my gallbladder out 3 weeks ago tomorrow by keyhole surgery. Didn't need to do anything diet related before the op. Just had to stop eating so many hours before I was due to have the operation which they should have told you, just to make sure your stomach is empty before your have the general anaesthetic. There should be a checklist they've given you before the op of what to do ie. no nail varnish on nails, all metal work removed/piercings and when to stop eating (I think mine was midnight the night before the op as I was on the morning list). If you're not sure, don't hesitate to ring them to ask. But I definitely didn't have to do any kind of special diet before hand. Good luck! You'll be absolutely fine. The operation is a breeze. The first week you'll just be a bit slow on your feet, by the end of the second week you won't be able to feel you've had an op

Thanks Bev. I knew i couldnt have anything the night before but i was reading online about a liquid diet before so that you were cleaned out. Im sure my surgeon would have mentioned it or they would mention it at my pre op but I was worried that I didn't know. So thank you for your reply, that makes me feel better?

Hi temi, if they haven't told you by now I doubt you'll need to have a liquid diet. I believe thats in special circumstances as I read the same so I wouldn't worry about it. Its just as you know nothing after midnight the night before and I was allowed a small glass of water before 06.30 and I had to be at the hospital by 07.30, I think this is to stop you getting too dehydrated but your admission letter will tell you everything you need to know.
Good luck, you'll be fine, let us know how you get on xx

Thanks Lelly. I know how that is when you're on a diet and have to have the same thing all the time. You get to the point of not wanting to look at it anymore.
