Liquid paraffin allergy - PLEASE HELP

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have suffered from atopic dermotitus for 27 years now. I am at my wits end and wanting to see what is causing it, i had a allergy test. This came back with many items, water, yeast, lactose, etc etc, But one thing that came up was liquid paraffin.

All my creams and shower oils have this in, i have looked high and low but cannot find anything as the market seems to favour this in everything they make for eczema sufferers.

Im wanting to avoid all the necesseries, SLS, fragrance etc but when i can avoid these, i cannot avoide paraffin in these. Can anyone recommend anyting, or have they come across the same issue?

Im at the end of my tether and ready to give up, the doctors are not helping and also refuse to do so due to the route i tested for these allergies.

Appreciate any time and help

Many thanks

    Hi Adam,

Yes ... Aveeno Skin Relief is based on Shea Butter ... its a bit thick but tolerable.

I like you am sensitive to anything that is petroleum based ... all of the prescription moisturisers and emollients are based on paraffin etc ... its a nightmare.

You can get the Aveeno from Asda (£5) / Boots ... its the one with the Blue Cap ... Not the Green (which contains ... yes you guessed it!)

Other alternatives ... Coconut oil (doesn’t work for me but worth a shout), Argan oil, jojoba oil .... if you search for 'paraffin free' there are quite a few.

You sound like you suffer badly with allergies, make sure you are careful when trying new lotions and potions in case you have a reaction.

Do you use any steroid medication?

    Hope this helps

    Simon.

Thank you Simon, funnily enough i had found the Aveeno one in my lunch break so have it to try.

I am having troubles finding shower gels and shampoos now.

yes, i use steriods like they're going out of fashion, have done for 15 years or so. I hate using them as i am aware how bad they are but have little or no hope with anything else.

I refused to go back onto it last week and now on something new, not steriod but cant remember but it burns for days after putting it on.

I suffer bad with all sorts of allergies, i first thought i was allergic to eggs and nuts but looking into it im allergic to Chlorine (so I can’t have any water, only mineral water) ,Diary. Yeast, Mixed Spice, Paint, Liquid paraffin (all my cream I am allergic to), Rabbit fur, Cut grass, Dental amalgam (I’m allergic to my fillings)

its getting me down so badly now.
