LIS Surgery 8 days ago ... Question(s)

Hello everyone,

I had LIS surgery last Monday, but ever since Wednesday I've been having really smelly white puss in my discharge, along with blood, but the blood seems to be decreasing over time. Since the last 2 days it has been soaking through my gauze. No fever. Just lots of pussy discharge with some blood, and painful at times throughout the day.

I have been emailing my Dr through their web portal but he hasn't responded (awesome, not sure why they have those things if they don't ever reply) .

Questions:

  1. Is it normal to have smelly puss in my discharge fluids?
  2. My BMs have been very painful. Similar to having a fissure. Is this normal 8 days after surgery?
  3. If this is normal, how long should I expect the discharge to continue?
  4. How long for the pain during BMs to go away?

Thanks,

StevieNoWonder

    1. with my first LIS i had light bleeding for first few days and discharge for about 8 days. both gradually lessened by day.
    2. my first LIS was a fail so bms were practically the same pain pre surgery. with my second LIS, pain started lessening at the 5 week mark and IIRC by the 6th/7th week the fissure was closed.
    3. not sure, but i would say if it goes beyond 2 weeks or the discharge and blood increases, then call your GP
    4. mine started calming down after 5 weeks

try to be patient, this area has a lot of nerves, and they need time to repair.

Hey there, I am on day 17 post op LIS, for me the first 7 days BM hurt a lot, specially that I was lucky enough to have diarrhea on the 3rd and 4th day, on the 9th day I had no more pain on my BM, except I still have pain after, my problem was not feeling the pain while having bm it is after the spams pain that last forvever. I didnt have any pus or discharge that smells, it could be a sign of infection, talk to your doctor asap, my swelling went away after 11 days. hope you get better.
