Listening to your body

Thank you to everyone telling me that at 2+ weeks out I am not ready to get back to my normal activities and to "listen to your body." Here is what I learned yesterday: if you do not listen to your body when it is whispering to you, it will SCREAM at you later! I must have been up a bit too much yesterday, i did some light housework, picking up, sweeping, dishes, etc... Anyway I paid for it last night, up all night with an awful throbbing pain and felt like my insides were pushing downward and might fall out. So the bottom line is I have learned to stop expecting so much from myself or worrying about what anyone else might or might not expect from me and LISTEN TO MY BODY!

I am very sorry that you went through that. I have my operation on the 27th. Do you have any tips? Is there anything I should buy before the surgery? Any particular underwear? Anything helps. I am so excited/nervous

Take it easy. I wasn't too sore but found maternity pads provided a nice cushion along with short type underwear. I had one stitch in each of the creases of the top of my leg. Also loose fitting clothes.

      Best of luck

And definitely take it easy, nobody that isn't having this surgery or who hasn't already had it understands how intense it actually is. I mean you are moving things around that are mounted in the wrong place, removing some things, and getting cut open. I am getting a posterior vaginal repair for rectocele and prolapse. Also getting tightened up quite a bit! Please listen to your body and not other people who know minimal about what you are going through. I hope you feel better!

I hope you're feeling better now. I know that feeling all too well. I was like that at Christmas, 3 weeks post op. It is hard to take it easy but it must be done. Here's to you taking it easy

Totally agree. 2 wks post op & found yesterday hubby was a bit more lax on attention so I did a few bits with getting school uniforms ready. Making cakes with kids & wiping worktops. I was very sore last night. Mad considering I would think they were minor things to do.

My catherer is really causing pain its like my body is aware of a foreign body and wants it out. Due to get it removed on Friday but just rang & they said to come in today & they would have a look.

All so true - taking it as easy as you can.  I'm 15 weeks post op for anterior/posterior/perineum etc.  I had a male surgeon who just happened to be a professor in his field (originally op should have been done by a lady surgeon who i specifically asked for but hospital cancelled my op at the 11th hour as a bed shortage so NHS used a private hospital hence the different surgeon).  I could never have imagined what i would be like post op, pain, catheters, extreme fatigue and on my 7 1/2 week check up appointment he said he was happy i'd healed, still had stitches but was ok to hoover, drive have sex (still too scared).  So a week later being Christmas over did it with cooking, entertaining and some housework, then a day later felt things did not seem right (dropped) so saw GP who sent me away for another six weeks before possible re-referral. I am doing most things around the house, but still being very cautious with lifting anything too heavy.  My husband hoovers through once a week but as i said i do most other things.  I was very independent before op and i do feel down at times with what i used to do and what i'm now doing.  However I DO NOT want to have any repeat operations in the future and would think long and hard should it be suggested i might need to.  Most ladies i talk to i really understanding.  My husband doesn't always come across as being so and i do feel alot of guilt as he has a very stressful full on job and i don't work, which is a blessing.  What i'm trying to say is although medical staff say 6 weeks recovery after op, double that and more it takes a long time to recover.  So to all ladies just had ops and going in for ops, let nature take it's time our bodies need to adjust to the changes and so we avoid where possible further ops, rest, rest rest.  P.S i've recently started swimming and joined slimming world cos put on some extra weight, i walk and am looking into safe exercises post op besides pelvic floor.   Kind regards to all.

Just back from the hospital so I have a bladder infection & infection at my stitches. On 3

anti biotics now. Going in on Friday to have catherer removed but they want me to stay overnight to monitor bladder function

From what I understand, having a catheter increases chances of infection. Read that somewhere when researching. glad you have antibiotics now and I really hope it gets to feeling better. 2 weeks post op, how would you rate your pain? I am just trying to find out what I am looking at heading into this on the 27th

The first week 1 being lowest, 10 highest. I was a 9. Surprised as I have high pain threshold & after pushing three 10lb+ babies out without pain relief never thought anything could be worse. Now I would say I am more uncomfortable than in pain so would rate 2nd week at 5.

Every surgery is different & I may have had a lot more than you even require. But I think your dr is fooling you saying you will be out in one day & back to work soon after. I am out of work for 12-14 wks & I sit all day.

I am taking at least 12 weeks off regardless of what my doctor says. I called today and they said that the only way it is a 3 hour outpatient surgery is if everything goes perfect and there is no complications and I want to go home, which I do not. I will spend my night in the hospital and have help and professionals there to help! She said 6 weeks but I would have restrictions and stuff but I can't take intermittent leave at my job. I don't qualify for FMLA until October 26 and I can't leave again once I come back. I would rather be safe than sorry. I will probably apply to Immediadent for patient coordinator just sitting down doing scheduling and checking people in. It's a sit down job that makes $2.50+ more per hour than my current job. I have quite a few issues so I do think mine will be intense. My perineum is ruined and everything is out of place (prolapse) and my sphincter muscle is so damaged I can't have a bowel movement without pushing my perineum or opposite side of my anus. My vagina did not hurt after I had my son and he was 8.4. I did have stitches and everything from my opisiatomy, and I had an epideral but after that wore off I wasn't too bad at all. It was uncomfortable. I am tough with vagina pain but a big baby about abdominal cramps. Those will be the death of me!

That sounds like a good plan. I had the exact same issues as you & already can see a difference in the look of my vagina but also my bum. Saying that yesterday strained with bowel movement and felt a little bump so hoping it was a little pile & that surgery hasn't failed.

I had terrible stomach cramps & was probably a sight with a hot water bottle on my tummy & an ice pack on my bum. My advice take a weeks course of movicol before surgery to clear you out.

I hope it's not failing at all, that would be horrible. Hopefully it is just still healing up and it was just pressure or something small. My doctor gave my Senna-S (docusate sodium, 50 mg/sennosides, 8.6 mg) Natural Vegetable laxative + stool softener. Is that similar or should I request the Movicol? I definitely want to clear out. I have very big rock hard dry bowels that were the death of me after the birth of my son.

You cant normally get Movicol in the US Chey but I believe its basically the same thing as Miralax. The docusate sodium he gave you is probably intended to be used ahead of time to clean you out before surgery? I cant imagine using something as strong as that after the surgery as diahhrea could be almost as detrimental as constipation. Ive used clear tasteless  miralax powder mixed in apple juice along with stool softeners 2x daily and have had no problems.

I have been trying to find out what I should take and how much to take. I definitely need to clear out. I have had the most weird feeling inside my rectum when I sit down, a painful pressure feeling. I don't know if I have a bowel movement coming or not. Since the birth of my son I have one once every week and a half or less. and they are very hard and painful and bleed. Sorry for tmi! Just wondering if that's normal for the situation or not. I will definitely try taking more miralax and stool softeners.
