I actually walked down 3 steps on a cane, walked (limped) without a cane around the house, made dinner and finally was able to clean the potty boxes and refill water bowls for my cats all by myself!

Little steps but I'm getting there!

Not bad for 4 weeks!

Well done you onward and upward. Week 6 and had to take a rest day due to pain. Seems it strikes for no reason. Been doing my exercises to ensure I do not stiffen up

yayy for you !! I was so happy when I was finally able to scoop the kitty myself and start feeding them on my own again! It was around 5 weeks when I was able to : )  We do appreciate the little things like that dont we?

That's fab after 4 weeks , little steps though is key . I had a double hip replacement 6 weeks ago and a couple of times I've over done things and had to rest and learn from it . I can do a bit of cooking and things round the house now and get round the house crutchless but use them for my ouside walks . You are doing great , keep positive , all the best , Ruth

Most people experience a rapid recovery at week 4 or 5. Prior to that you were getting just a little better every day (or not better at all) but at week 4/5 most people get a whole lot better a whole lot quicker.

I hope my comment provides hope to those who had their THR less than 4 weeks ago. It will get better.

Thank you all for your support!

You have guided me all the way and for that I am thankful!

I hope all of you have the best of recoveries and for those still waiting, it really isn't as bad as you would think. At least for more people than not!

yes, those accomplishments are worth sharing -especially here as we all know how much this means ... I was so happy to be able to dress myself (I love alone), put on my socks with that strange thing and taking a shower, drying my lower legs and feet !!! I am really good with the grabber - we are all getting there !

Well done .Agreed what may seem little to some is a triumph for us Hippies. I was thrilled to finally after 3 long years walk up the stairs like normal again. I called out to my husband to see that's how awesome it felt.

Hi Miele and all hippie cat owners....I have nine cats, live alone and am 5 weeks post op .  Before I went in to the hospital, I raised my four litter boxes in the basement by placing them on a large piece of plywood which was raised about 30 inches from the floor making possible to clean them without breaking the bending rule.. I have managed to put their dishes on the floor by swinging my leg out to the back as the golfers do. Some I feed on a table I set up in the kitchen just for the occasion.

Also, I have just started doing the stairs with both legs..just a few each day. I had considerable swelling in both legs ..especially of course in my op leg but that has been going down nicely since I started wearing knee high supphose during the day.  I have graduated from a crutch to a cane and still have pain in my hip..sometimes down my whole leg but am only taking over the counter Tylenol extra strength . Couldn't handle those strong meds that they sent me home with..so I do expect to feel pain to a certain extent.
