Little Holiday

Well in a few hours time me and my lovely husband will be heading to York from Scotland.

This will be a big test for me as its the most l have done since my 2 hip replacements.

I am excited and nervous at the same time but as my husband said there is no pressure on me, we do what you feel you can and if you are not managing we will come home.

I want to do it l want to prove to myself l am a million times better than l was the last time l went which was a disaster . it was when l had OA pain and it seemed to get a million times worse when l arrived there. I basically spent 3 days in a hotel room in tears if l tried to go anywhere l could hardly walk. That was end of sept last yesr and l had my 1st hip replacement 9th dec.

So we will see how it goes this time. Hopefully better than last. I will be able to say l actually seen York.

I have wi fi in my hotel so will try and keep you posted on how l am getting on.

This is huge for me and l am hoping it is great.

Catch you all soon my frirnds..

Love

Hilarious Laura. My sister said exactly the same thing to me last weekend when we went to Sydney Harbour. "I just want to go there and sit around and enjoy the scenery. We won't be walking around much." Hahaha. We sat for 10 minutes max (over several sits) and spent the rest of the time walking.

Practice punching your husband in the arm, so he knows when you are tired and sore.

Great suggestion. I'll have to remember that next year when my husband and I travel. We were planning a trip to see the Redwoods this year and my husband suggested we use the vacation money to change our tub to a walk-in shower for me. A good suggestion, by the way, and hopefully by Fall of 2017 I will be recovered enough from my bilateral hip replacement in December of this year to enjoy. We traveled to Disney world last year and my husband kept going so much that painkillers were the only way I manage around the OA pain. I hope to feel much better next time but I will learn to punch my husband's arm 😀

    Hi Lors,

I'm in a similar positon so I understand.

I had my 2nd THR 2 and a half years ago, 4 weeks post op I was doing and NHS exercise and there was a  crack and my leg gave way.

I'm been on crutches since that. I fractured my greater grochanter bone.

So this is a permanent thing......it wont heal. and is ver sore. but a year ago I set myself a goal. ....to go back to Venice on our 70th birthday {next month} Venice has no transportr so that would be me on 2 crutches walking about the whole time.....not even allowed a mobility scooter. Right.....I've been working towards that and knew that I would have to pace myself when I got there and wouldnt be able to do as much as before.  What happened!!!!!! 6 weeks ago the knees decided to join the partyrolleyes Everything is booked so thats that. My husband like yours says we will just take it easy but I'm really scared now so I understand how you feel.

Lets hope we both have good holidays

    Love

      Eileen, that's awful!

I know you've spoken about it before but every time it hits me anew just what you're going through.  And now the knees.  Life can really smack you in the teeth sometimes.

I've never been to Venice and I don't think I'll get there now.  My passport expired a couple of years ago and I decided not to renew it. Financially I'm a bit hard pressed since I retired and anyway holidays are difficult when you're single and all your friends are couples.  Go and enjoy it for me, and tell us all about it when you come back.

      Sending hugs,

      hello Eileen,

I hope you have a fantastic trip to Venice- there are plenty of places to just stop and sit. People watching is one of my favourite pastimes on holiday. I can see a couple of suggestions about taking a wheelchair, but I remember a lot of the pedestrian bridges are stepped, so these would be difficult with a chair. The water taxis are easy to board and get around much cheaper than the gondolas.

Take it easy and do what you can without hurting your knees.

Can't wait to hear all about it!

      Hi Lynn

I know you can hire a wheelchair there but I thibnk you have to book it a long time in advance. As for taking one......not sure?

other thing is I've never used a wheelchair before, a scooter if needed and I dont want to ask my husband to shove me around in a wheelchair

especially over all the bridges they have....its his holiday as well......I havent mentioned it to him

      Hi Lors

I'm not on the mend.....it will not heal not like an ordinary fracture.

Apparently its to do with muscles and they have stretched and will never knit back together again. Well I've been this afternoon for a 2nd X Ray on knees and I'm getting an injection {which will take 40 mins!!!!} think its a steroid one....hopefully that will help even if its enough to let me get through my holiday

      Hi Cels

Yes I set a goal originally {about a year ago} to go to Venice on crutches but I hadnt planned on the knees joing the partybiggrin

Yes...I'm determined to enjoy it even if I dont do as much as I did the last time.

y in a previous post I'm getting an injection {steroid} 7th May so hopefully that will work especially if they get the correct knee LOL They have X Rayed both of them  now

      I will let you know

      Hi Alipet

      I've been 3 times before but only had a stick before not 2 crutches. Mobility is much worse. I love people watching.....I think first thing in the morning I will sit outside a hotel with a coffee and people watch and send my husband off for a walk....hes very fit and walks 3 times a week here. {Not such long walks but that will give me time to loosen up}

I dont remember what bridges are pedestrian and what aren't. It wasnt necessary so I didnt notice

Are the water taxis not very expensive?

I know they wont let you on gondolas with crutches.

      I'll manage some way
